Usb port Questions

Hi, I just purchased the Tascam us-122 audio/midi interface...
I'm using a Behringer C-1 mic. to record vocals.....After much cursing and screaming, Installing and Uninstalling I finally got a signal on the channel (Cakewalk software)...I proceeded with a Test recording and got lots of horrible noise on top of the vocals...My input and output volumes were on the first notch...Any suggestions or tips???

Ohh

Also...my recording levels can't seem to go any higher or the signal is extremly distroted as well as noiseee...
Any input is greatly appreciated
