USA Fender HSS Strat or Les Paul Studio

I'm looking for a new guitar and basically can have either of these for the same price used. My main concern is versatility ... although I love the tone of a Paul, nothing feels more comfy than a Strat (to me anyway). Unfortunately, I can't have both. I play mostly rock, but a wide variety ...

The Strat is an 2004 w/ the S1 switch & the Paul is a 1991 Ebony w/Chrome

I was wondering what some of your opinions are, thanks in advance

which pickups does the strat have? if it's got the S-1 switch i'm pretty sure in must be the American Deluxe, in which case I prefer the newer SCN Noiseless than the older ones...



however, I think you'd fine a HSS strat more versatile than a LP..
 
My opinion: A Strat is much more versatile than an LP, particularly in SSH, and most particularly if the humbucker is a split coil.
 
Listen to your hands. Personally, I can't stand the thick/wide Gibson necks, so I'd go with the Strat.
 
les pauls are damned uncomfortable and not very versatile.

a hss strat gives you so much more.
 
Oh, I don't know about LPs being uncomfortable. I played live with one for years - you just need a decent strap.
 
It's like arguing about the best "anything". You need one of each. They are both great guitars.

Bingo, one of each is the way to go. My strat is still more versatile though.
 
I'm faced with the same quandry (HSS Strat vs Epi LP) and I'm still stuck in the middle; it really varies from one guitar to another in the LP's and Strats.

One LP just plays great (while others less so_, but then I'll find a Strat that plays ALMOST as well (again, while other Strats are less so), but has all of that great tonal flexibility.

However, the versatility of the Strat (and it's comfort) will likely win the day for me.
 
Sheer versatility goes to the Strat's 5 way pickup system and S-1 switch that gives you 10 different pickup combinations without even touching a knob.

If you already have strats, get the LP. If this is going to be your only guitar, then getcherfuckingheadexamined! You can't only have one guitar! :eek:

I have no les paulish guitars. I have a hollowbody w p90s. I have a peavey t-60. I have a squier strat with 2 humbuckers. None of them are Les Pauls. They all are kinda like a les paul. An you'd think you'd be able to do les paulish stuff on them. You can sort of, but I am still thinking about getting a les paul. Maybe one of those ones that looks like it was on the barn floor for 20 years.
