My us 1641 control panel says "none found" under device when the interface is plugged in. I have tried downloading and uninstalling drivers, downloading firmware (which doesnt work because the device isnt recognized) and trying different sequences of plugging it in. I cant seem to find a lot of advice on this because it seems that most people cant get their DAW to recognize the interface and not the control panel. Can you install a different control panel? any advice would be awesome!

computer: Macbook Pro w/ os x 10.6.8

I would be much more help if you were using a Windows system. Sorry, I don't really have a clue here as I don't know how Mac works.

How do you even get to the 1641 control panel, if the device is not found? Something does not seem to make sense here.

I search for the control panel in applications and open it... Do you normally just plug in the interface and the controll panel pops up or something? I thought I was supposed to have it open first but I'm not positive

Naw, in Windows with Cubase the control panel is opened from within the DAW. I don't even have an option to open the control panel in any other way as far as I know.

Maybe Garage band just does not get along with the 1641. Are you able to use the interface to play back youtube and stuff? Again, I have no clue how Mac works. Maybe hit up a Mac guy in the forums. I just do not know enough about the platform to help you. :(

it seems like i cant do anything with it... i got the control panel to recognize it once and it worked fine but havent been able to since even if i do the same exact things... not too sure what to do right now since tascam wont get back to me

Maybe I can direct you to a user with better knowledge of MAC stuff. I admit, it is usually only PC users that I have seen talking about the 1641.

Hey there.
What version of the driver are you on? Should be 2.0.

You said you got it to work once, right? Do you suspect it's faulty?
Use spotlight to navigate to system profiler then check under USB to make sure the device is physically recognised.

That's got nout to do with drivers or anything - If it ain't in system profiler, something's broke.
If that's the case, switch cables, switch ports, try a different interface, or try the tascam in a different computer.

That should prove the fault to one particular piece of gear.

yea i have the 2.0 driver installed and im not sure how i got it to work the first time, just a lot of reconnecting and wiggling really... Im thinking it could be the usb cable so i ordered a new one. Ill have to try using system profiler too. The green light on the interface that says "usb" is lit up though which i believe indicates a good connection on the interfaces end. Thanks for the help guys hope i get her to work

Do check system profiler. All the light really means is 5v and ground are connected.

Whether there's a driver or not, the computer will 'see' devices.
System profiler tells you what devices are seen.

It might say "Vendor 0x1F2 Device 0x101800" or something rather than the name, but that's better than saying nothing at all. ;)

The USB cable is standard so if you happen to have one plugged into a printer, or whatever, you can try it out in the meantime.

Thanks man. I had no knowledge of Mac to help this guy. Well, if it were mac n cheese I could. :)

Yes, the USB cable is the same as a USB cable for a printer. I have seen cables that are made for USB 2.0, but not sure if there is actually a difference. I do know that any more than 10' or 3m of length in USB cable length can cause connection issues. I tried extending once and it did not work.

system profiler is recognizing the tascam... What to do now??

So i figured it out... You have to download an earlier version driver and then download the newest version for your operating system (2.00 in my case). DO NOT remove the old driver when you download the new one. Now you have to download firmware. I have a mac and the firmware download kept crashing it so i called tascam and they said to do the firmware download with a PC and then it would work fine with my mac... low and behold it did!

Thanks for all the tips guys
