I've been looking on ebay and their's some PC2100 ram(the kind I need) really cheap I think. 512 DDR ram for like $50 bucks! Will is work just as fast and efficient as name brands?

sure dude

That'll work. In my opinion RAM is RAM. If you talk to the geek heads they will always have an opinion or be leaned to their favorite brands. But to me RAM is RAM and you won't get that much difference to even rant about.

If you are confident that this is the memory you require be sure that you can return it if it doesn't work. These components are easily damaged.

I've built 100's of PC's and it's not all the same. If bought cheap shit that was fine. I've also had cheap stuff that causes intermittent crashes and lockups. If you buy quality stuff, you're less likely to have problems. It's up to you.

If you want cheap ram, dont buy it on ebay. You can find ram about that price on the internet like the site http://www.4allmemory.com/

Along with alot of other online memory stores... just do a search for cheap memory.

RAM is not all created the same. I always avoid cheap RAM. In fact, IMHO it's become even more important to get decent memorty with the advent of DDR. It just seeems to be more difficult to make correctly. As with all tech weenies, I have my pet brand (Corsair). But I would say at least get some kind of quality brand. I would include Corsair, Kingston, Crucial, Geil, Apacer, Viking, and Micron among them. It's possible I'm forgetting one or more, but that's a good list to go by.

If you're not looking to overclock, just pick the cheapest RAM among that group that meets the specs you require (i.e., if you need PC2700 don't just get PC2100 and hope).

Yes I second that,

Pay the extra for a good brand. I have bought cheap ram only to cost me in the long run, return charges, etc.. My personal choices are Crucial and Kingston.
