Upgrading my US-428 with 2488 mkII?

I want a new DAW. I am seriously considering the 2488 because of the price! Was wondering if anyone had any insight on this possible change? I know the 2488 records internally to its HDD, but can I use it with my Cubase 32 software the same way as I did the 428?

I'm not familiar with the 428, but I can tell you that I have a 2488 and love it. And, yes, you can transfer your files into your DAW and do whatever you want in CUBASE.
 
So it can transfer, but what about direct to to my PC the way the 428 did?
 
No, the 2488 is a STANDALONE hard disk recorder, where as the US-428 is basically an audio interface and software control surface rolled into one. They are two completely different things.

You can transfer .wav files between the 2488 and Cubase but not in real time. You can also use MIDI to control the 2488 from Cubase.
 
If you're wanting to combine the best of both worlds (Computer DAW and Standalone) keep the 428 as the bridge between your 2488 and computer. I do this occasionally with my Roland VS2480 and my laptop connected to my 428.

It has two sets of midi in/outs for synching purposes as well as Digital In/outs.

You will be limited to transferring two tracks at a time, but the midi synch will at least keep them in line for you.

Maybe a 2488 owner can chime in as to whether they can export raw waves to a CD that can be used to import into the computer...?

Yes, you can batch export the raw tracks as .wav files, either via USB or CD. You can also import .wav tracks to the 2488. You just can't do any of this in real time.
