I kinda like my MVXL603s's for stereo overheads but my cymbals tend to override everything else in the mix. I plan on keeping the MXLs and just use them for acoustig guitar. I thought about the GT44s but I cant seem to find them anywhere for the $199 that they used to go for. My local GC cant get them either.

Any other suggestions in the $300-$400 a pair range? This is for classic rock.

The Octavas are probably a little darker than the MXLs. They're in your price range.

If your cymbals are too loud, I'd think that's more of a mic placement problem than an actual mic problem. Have you tried different miking setups?

When my old band recorded, the engineer used two Rode NT1A's for overheads, I liked them alot. I plan on buying some soon. He used them on guitar cabs several times and they sounded pretty sweet. They have good reviews too.

Hope this helps you.

Go take a look at the Mxl mogami v69's!

You can get a pair of bitchin tube overheads for 400.00 at gc. I used to use the 603's, then i got some dagonflys, and they were ok too.

But after i heard these things i was blown away.
Definetly the best upgrade in your price bracket IMHO.

Best of luck.
