I've noticed that LE doesn't have a drum editor, which is a huge letdown for me. I know SE does. How much would it cost to upgrade LE to SE? For now though i'll have to deal without it. How much does having a drum editor when programming drum beats matter?

also, how does upgrading work? Would I have to install software all over again. I'm not sure how this works. Is upgrading the same as buying the SE version? It would be the same thing right, except upgrading costs less?

the drum editor is basically the same as the key editor. not much difference that I can tell. someone correct me if i'm missing something.

Seems like I recall reading here somewhere that LE is non-upgradeable at least as far as price goes.. You just pruchase and install SE... Not sure if it'd be wise to uninstall LE first or not...

Little different it its editing facilities but for the most part the same. Its nice to make a drum map for all your drum machines at once

What's the price difference rather that a straight purchase..??

I think it's like 89.99 for the upgrade instead of 149.99 for buying it separate.

Where'd ya find it..?? Lowest rpice I can find is Musicians Friend at $99 for the standalone version of SE...

I'm pretty sure it was on steinbergs official site somewhere.

Yeah but you also get to buy that wonderful Steinberg Dongle key for another $30 if you want it to work...
http://secure.keyfax.com/Merchant2/...nbergKey&Category_Code=Steinberg&Store_Code=M

Can get the whole stand alone deal at MF for $99.99

Even then you're limited to recording only 8 tracks at once.. Doesn't do me much good with 18 channels to play with...

I'm starting the think real hard about Cakewalk Sonar or Guitar Tracks.. Can do 64 tracks at once if you've got the hardware..

The dongle thing does suck but I think Cubase makes up for it. I have spent quite a bit of time in Sonar and Cubase and there's no way in hell that I'd willingly go back to Sonar. For me, Cubase has been much more stable. I can't count how many times Sonar just shut down in the middle of a session.

oh damn I didn't know about a stupid dongle key. Didn't get one for cubase LE. Are all the dongle k eys 30 bucks? And they come with the standalone cubases right? Like if I were to buy cubase SE at a store? Also what are the biggest limitations in cubase SE?

Try to find the 'old' SE (NOT SE3) version.
This one doesn't need a dongle.

I Stuck With Cubase

I needed to upgrade my LE version primarily to record more than 8 tracks at a time. Every dealer told me i needed Cubase4 or Cubase studio 4. I called Steinberg and they sold me Cubase Essential upgrade for $99 with the dongle key. I can record, i think up to 24 tracks at a time, but the midi interface and controls are more advanced with 4 or studio 4, i don't use midi though. As far as the dongle key, Its just a little usb plug that lets the software work, like a liscence key. I have a usb port that my mouse, controller, disk burner and the key are all plugged to. I only have to attach my power cord, usb port, and firewire and im up and running. The best help I recieved was from Steinberg themselves.. their number is on the web site..:)
