i tried to update my new tascam 2488 but it refused to do it for some reason. then i noticed that the machine has version 1.02 which is the same as the update patch i downloaded. what's the current version?
lol, it's only been 25 hours lol. no new material here. i've been transferring some of my older material from my computer and using the new features to play with the sound and learn the machine at the same time. i'll have to wait for a bit of inspiration before i record something new
Always nice to welcome a new member to the 2488 club. I was wandering how many of us there are and what level of sonic perfection people achieve / expect to achieve with this machine? The reason I ask is because almost everyone I know uses a PC and I am regularly chastised for not joining the soft(ware) brigade, yet I can see little reason to switch.
I am really pleased with my 2488. It's perfect for a home recording studio. It has a shallow enough learning curve that you can get tracking and mixing quickly, and enough capability that it's not necessary to get a bunch of outboard gear.
The more I use it, the better I get at getting listenable tracks out of it. I still need to learn more about compression - both while tracking, and on the final mix.

One of the reasons I prefer the digital portastudio format is because it is so intuitive that I don't have to think to much about what I'm doing and can concentrate on being creative.
