I posted an earlier mix of this song before, and have worked on it since. When I listened to it on another system, something popped out to me as being obviously off. I want to see if everyone else has the same initial thought.

I can't hear anything wrong. Are you finding something wrong in the mix or in the composition?

the mix. I'm not sure if it just seemed that way because of the system I was listening on or if the mix needs some fixing.

It's not the mix--it's the chord progression! :D

Seriously, I'm not hearing it--sounds good to me, but I'm listening on headphones. I'll give it another listen tonight in the studio.

I think it's the most flawless, perfect chord progression ever make.

I thought the drums sounded loud, but I think I suffer from quite drum syndrome. If nobody else thought they were loud, then I guess they are ok. Thanks for the help

Y'know, I'm a fan of big loud drums. I hate anemic background sounding drums. And in your case, you've got the frequencies covered so that the drums aren't covering everything else--the bass, piano, guits etc--all still have their space.

Nice song + mix. Sounds a bit like early Coldplay before Chris Martin shacked up with Gwyneth Paltrow, had a kid and started to suck real bad (IMHO!).
A couple of suggestions:
- a little less/or different reverb on the snare
- EQ and(or) bring up the piano, at least at some times (it's almost always too low)
- as an instrumental, it may need a little something else (break, bridge, instrument??)

These are minor as it sounds good to me (on headphones).
Cheers,

Yeah, I agree with the too much reverb on the snare comment. I think that might be why I think it sounds too loud.

I also plan on putting lyrics to this at some point, I am just really bad with coming up with melodies. I'll probably make it shorter when I add the vox. It's pretty long for a slowish song.

I also inch the piano up more with every mix, so it will be a little louder on the next.

I thought the snare drum was a bit too loud too but certainly more in the personal taste range of things than something being *wrong* with the mix.

The drums are loud, but I don't really think it is problem. Tame the snare just a tad and I bet they fall right into place...The whole thing sounds pretty sweet actually.

The piano sounds nice. This has the potential to be really moving with a nice melody on top - a very cool backdrop for something if you add vocals...
