I just wanted to give an update on the room I started last month(in addition to my basement). I ended up going 3 sheet levels deep on either side of the sound booth and above on top and internally on the ceiling. I have R11 packed to the hilt inside, and on top of the acoustical ceiling tile.

My next steps are getting the laminate flooring down, and putting in the doors, which will be delivered Sat. morning. The entrance door will be glass, and the 4x5 sound booth is a steel framed, fireproof door, with a glass rectangular pane(heavy ass door).

All my equipment has been put into rolling racks, that I built and covered with black canvas. I hope I am in the home stretch to actually testing the acoustics out in the room, and adding my roominator package.

Thanks, as always comments are very welcomed.

Extra's

HEre is a pic of the ceiling and the 2x2 lights that I put in the studio, I am hoping to give it that professional look, but I am wondering how these tiles with strips of R11 insulation and sound batten will do on keeping sound inside the studio. The booth is triple sheetrocked and sealed with a ceiling and a thick door, and will have sonex foam lining it so I think it will be pretty sound proof.

What I'd be worried about with the ceiling tiles is bass frequencies. I've seen bass guitar make those puppies dance and rattle.

Ceiling Tiles?

I wonder would nearfield monitors make them bounce? I just dont see that much power in a nearfield monitor making a ceiling tile jump or rattle, if the ceiling grid and tiles have been put in correctly.

Also too these are reveal ceiling tiles, not the ones that just lay on top of the grid, which would help in that respect, and they also have a layer of R11 Sound Insulation laying on top of them.

do you have a overall layout of your studio? i'd like to have a better idea of what your studio looks like because it looks very well thought out.

Looks good man! I too would be interested in the over all layout. One word of caution about the lights - Fluorescent's can buzz and hum quite a bit as they get older.

Cheers
Kevin.

Lights (Oh yeah)

I already went thru that with the first set of lights I got. I took them back and they gave me some that had an "electronic ballast" which they told me in the store would stop the humming and also make them light faster. Well so far so good. Its a home depot thing but i suppose if they did start to hum, I will take these back.

Good point though.
