*update* redneck protest song

The point i was making is that class action lawyers DO attack peoples paychecks. Guns and cigarettes are just the first 2 examples that came to mind.
I think guns should be available and I think every american should have one and know how to use it. You have the right to believe that their price should be out of reach for poorer americans and maybe even that they should be banned.

you might feel differently if someone broke into your home and threatened your family and you diddn't have one to defend yourself with.

Im not "all riled up" about the price of a handgun.

I get "riled up" at the insinuation that im a stupid redneck that dosen't know what a class action lawyer is...and who also can only use simple words and cliches to write a song.

I apoligize to politicker and everyone else for being so sarcastic in my previous post.

i dont know how old this tread is i stumbled upon it.i just have to say i now realise that lots of americans are as scary as the stereo type suggests.more people get killed by the guns in their homes while trying to stop it being robbed then people get shot while robbing houses.do the math you idiot.

I admire songwriters that write about what they know best. Lyrics are good and accurately reflect the "South's Gonna Rise Again" perspective.

You certainly pushed some buttons based on the kind of responses on this thread...riles up all kinds of emotion...another characteristic of a good song.

I also thought "Charlie Daniels" as I read it. It also evoked a visceral reaction in me because I disagree so strongly with the opinions expressed in the song, and I do have the opinion -- which is just an opinion -- that the song's politics are, well, unsophisticated.

But the song is articulate and evocative enough to raise some important issues, and any artist that can get that sort of reaction out of his song is doing something right.

Now that I'm done with my disclaimer,

It seems to me that one goal of such a song is to evoke sympathy for the narrator or the narrator's point of view. In that regard, the problem that I see is that this song is likely to appeal only to like-minded people, who are going to hear it and yell, "right on" (or something like that) and, indeed, will love it even if it sucks musically (I have not listened to it, so I have no opinion about it musically). On the other hand, people who start out not agreeing with the sentiments expressed in that song are likely to be alienated, to the point where they are going to reinforce any unfair negative stereotypes they already have about white southerners.

Charlie Daniels, for example, was able to write songs like that without alienating people. I think that he did it by expressing his broad opinions from a more personal, intimate place, for example, by showing how Neil Young's "Southern Man" hurt his feelings. So my suggestion is that instead of such a broad, impersonal manifesto, you try to illuminate your broad points by highlighting more specific, personal things.

let me say that the line "its time here down in dixie, for the south to rise again" is not to be taken literally...that southerners should don grey uniforms and put the confederate army back together and start killing yankees. It seems like some poeple have taken the lyrics that way.

in a nutshell what im saying in these lyrics is that lawyers, tree huggers, animal rights activists, anti-gun activists, and the extream left in general have "invaded" the south and many of their targets are Southern symbols and heritage. I thought about that and realized it would be cool to write a song about that and put it in a Cival War theme.

The way I meant for "the south to rise again" is politically. People down here bitch about all that I have illustrated in the song...but most of them don't even vote. "if you don't love us leave us and be gone with the wind" is to all the outsiders that come here and want to change the south (for the worse IMO).

Also, to be honest....I knew I would get a rise out of alot of people with this song....I enjoy reading their posts.

Someone like Travis Tritt could cut this song and it would bring his career back....because of the controversy it would stir up and someone like Toby Keith (whos career is booming) wouldn't touch it with a 10 ft pole....because of the controversy it would stir up

This looks like a job for me...we need a little controversy
