I'd rather have the EPROM hardware upgrade. Otherwise, you have to keep that upgrade CD non-corrupted and reload it any time you have a further system config crisis.

If you can get your EPROM out of Tascam you're lucky. Stay on top of the situation. Get the name and extension of anyone you talk to there. Tascam has a tendency to blow off its customers.

A 60 GB drive would be great. It will take you a long time to fill it up. I'd go 5400rpm and try to stay single platter, personally. Although many are happy with their Seagate Barracuda 7200 drives.

I'd say replace the hardward also.

I just did it a month or so back and got the chip the next day after ordering off the phone. Then I put in a 60g Hitachi from computergeeks.com and it's like a whole new machine.

Hey Arranger...

I'm confused. I thought once you upgraded to version X.X, the EEPROM was re-written, and you'd have no need for the CD any longer.

Wow, that would be great. Perhaps I'm mistaken and shouldn't have commented without being better informed. That would make the upgrade permanent and you wouldn't need the CD again. In that case, there would be no difference.

We need Larry Robinson. I'm headed to cMoore and the 788 Refugees with this question.

"I'll be bAch."

Yeah, Larry would know...

Where are these 788 refugees? This is the only place I knew to go, and it's never been real active. I know there were a couple of 788 groups on Yahoo or Topica, but everyone migrated to the Tascam forum....and we all know what happened there!

Thanks!

Lee

Nevermind....I Googled up the 788 Refugees at cmoore.com

Thanks again!

EPROM

Erasable
Programmable
Read
Only
Memory

It is firmware, and should therefore be non-volatile.

but...with that company, I think I am going to keep my upgrade CD in a safe place.
