I have a pair of Alesis Monitor One MKIIs and I'm wondering if I can safely plug them into my home stereo receiver. Keep in mind these are unpowered monitors.
There is a amp of great aclaim; one of great sound; one of great performance; and, I have such an amp.
Were you in Ali Baba's gang?
I use a Yam integrated amp to run my rig in my studio; one feature is a "clear through" button which eliminates and coloring from the amp; so, you will not really have much trouble using a stereo amp to do some recording if you have some fair monitors.
From my stereo amp I run two sets of speakers, two tape decks, a CD player, a turntable, and it has an AUX plug for anything else one might want, like a DAT deck.
So, you can go either way and get good results -- regular power amp or an integrated unit.
I've got the powered Alesis M1s so there is no other external power amp to color anything just the ones in the speakers. I put a Behringer DEQ2496 in front of the speakers so if I want any speaker color (hype'd mids for example) I'll use that. (note that does not correct room hype - you gotta alter physical objects & position speakers for that).
