C1 - Long time no post, man. Thanks for checking it out. The guitars took forever on this, but I recently picked up a demo version of "Revalver," which I thought you once said you used...Did you? Do you? I'm not using my Jazz Chorus amp for heavier tones from now on if I can avoid it, lol. Anyway...thanks for lending me your ears.

Yeah, I still use that thing since I don't have good mics, a real amp or the know-how for it. :D

Okay, I'm really late in the game on this one, and you have probably heard this already (I have not read all the replys here) ... but, dude, this song seriously has HIT POTENTIAL! And the dry recording sounds great! I might bring the vocals out just a tad more, but that is the only feedback on this end...

Seriously, you need to pitch this thing!

:)

I'm glad someone said it first.

I love it when you throw something different out there, chris! (like that distorted acoustic guitar song you did awhile back!) Not what i expected, a very pleasant suprise!!!! I've had this downloaded for a few day's, so i believe it's the first version.
I have nothing to add.........I just like to pick on you and listen to your tunage!:D Impressive tracking!

Thank's chris!

Peace

Rick...........Oh, i know you don't like late bump's.

BUMP!!!!!!!! :D

Dude,...lmao..your timing is...wow. I JUST bumped Gidge's thread to dump this one onto the 2nd page...then, out of left field, THE BOXER-BRIEF WEARING WONDERBOY STRIKES...lol.

Thanks, Rick. It was kinda' fun to get back to my pop roots, lol. I think I learned something from tracking this that will help me on my mellow crap, too.

smellyfuzz & boydrj - Thanks for checking it out, guys. Boydrj, I think I leveled the vox out a bit on the "wet" version of this one...or maybe not, lol. At any rate, thanks.

END THIS!!!
:D

Cool pop song. That Michael W Smith reference is right on. Unfortunately that reminds me of the one year I spent at a christian high school for my senior year so I seem to have a pavlovian dislike to it ;)

Nice job on the production. It is amazing how your vocals do sound autuned. I guess it's the heavy doubling. You are doubling it right?

No, not at all. I don't know what you're talking about??

lmao...yes, assface...they're doubled, thank you. :D

And, for the record, I ditched the Antares for good - Being a rebel is not all it's cracked up to be, lmao.

I just wanted to be sure. If you could pull off natural autotune and doubling then you would have to be some type of two throated freak :D

Dry kinda works for you dude.Decent song.If you aren't lying about the autotune thing than you should really smash it on a f*ckin rock! You don't need it.It wrecks your nice voice.Reminds me of the Gin Blossoms(Sorry :( ).Vox is a bit upfront but the rest sounds fine, good mix.Maybe a bit more guitar but thats a personal pref.Thoughtful lyrics as usual.Sounds like there was a volume drop at the very end?

lmao...Thanks for the character vote there :D

There's a pretty easy way to tell with me, btw... or anybody, for that matter...just do a vocal cut on the mix so that all that's there are guitars, cymbals, and backup vocals...dry as a bone, baby. Oh, and the general "flatness" of the bg vox is a pretty good tip off too. :D

Thanks for listening, man. Where's Sam?

Darn it, I love this song! The second version is wonderful (and the first is pretty cool). Reminds me a lot of Dumptruck and other bands of that ilk.

BTW. I downloaded a handful of your other songs. Most of them kind of remind me of Peter Case. Hope that's not a bad thing. Anyhoo, I really dug them (being into all that Alt/Country/Folk Pop/Rock shenanigans as I am). Big Thumbs up!

Finally had a listen (to the 5/20 recording, whichever that was). You are SO radio ready. You prick.:D

Seriously, this was excellent. I'll second the Gin Blossoms nod, but these are strong lyrics too.

Guitars sounded great, as always. Drums were solid, too, but the crashes in the bridge were lower than the hi-hat - sort of unnatural sounding.

Vocals were good - I'll assume you were going for the nasally Michael Stipe quality you achieved. I thought "not be a-lone" wasn't working with the separate punches on each syllable of "alone" - confirmed it for me when you didn't do that on the last refrain and it worked better. Dunno if it was punches or timing that my ear was objecting to, but it sounded stiff. You changed both in the final refrain.

Anyhow, I'm picking tiny nits. You rock, Harris. Remember us when you're rich and famous.

Thanks, guys...I keep thinking I'm safely away from this thread, lol...then BAM!!! In comes the daf man. :D :D

And yeah, the vocal stabs there kinda' bugged me when I did 'em, but they're doubled, lol...so they're stayin! :D :D

(Toki's version is below it on my page if you wanna' hear WHY a bass guitar matters, lol)
www.nowhereradio.com/honestmango/singles

I'm not saying you need to listen, but if you listen, please...for the love of humanity, post in Toki's thread and let this albatross die... :D :D

Mark7 - You nailed the genre :D Thanks, man.

-SIGNING OFF FOREVER,
Chris

what a morbidly obese thread! :D

Listening to the Toki version.. It sounds good man.. a little edgy for you.. I think you said you didn't use any auto tune but I really thought I heard some.. especially in the beginning.. Either way it sounded great.. although, if I had to nitpick, I would have liked a bit different of a bass tone.. less bassy and almost more clicky.. not Korn clicky, but some highs.. I don't fuckin know, it sounded good enough! :D

Scout's honor...none. This thread taught me a couple of things that were pretty useful, but it also taught me that people think I sound like autotune....well COOL!!! lol.

BTW - I know you're catching up, and I appreciate you taking the time to listen to this one.

Now go listen to mbuster's total remake, lol...everybody's so sick of me, it got bumped off the front page after only 2 people heard it, and I hear tell that he's planning on killing himself if you don't listen, lol. Besides, he got my original vocal tracks, so he's probably dieing to blab about how much Autotune was on there :D

I'm catching up after a busy period in real life. And I've missed a load of good stuff.

Chris - this was a real surprise. It sounds great.

Err, wait, that didn't come out right... ;)

The surprise was the style - very (alt) poppy, and hardly country at all. Good song, good hook, great harmonies.

The snare sound has a bit too much "ring" for my tastes, but it still sounds fine. And I love the "implied" bass from the low-end of the guitars - works really well.

But your voice - I haven't read all the responses but I think I'm not the first to say that whatever you (didn't) do to your voice on this one, keep (not) doing it!

The natural tone of your voice comes through really clearly, and sounds great. You can really sing. I mean, I knew that anyway, but I secretly hoped it was all thanks to Autotune. It's very depressing to find out you're just talented. :)

I really enjoyed this.

Cheers

AB

Chris,

First time I've listened to you. I'm a fan, man.

While i was at it, i listened to Traveling Soldier. Awesome and moving. I love songs about a soldier's life. My dad, two brothers, and even I served in the military. Thanks again.
