lol...I just listened on headphones...wow, thos backups ARE PANNED, aren't they?...lmao :D

Ahh, I see what you have in mind. I'm in the process of writing my parts now. I don't suppose I could trouble you for just a simple stereo vox only track? Then later we can break it down more. I can make do without for now though if you've got too much "lawyering" to do (yeah right, this guy never works)

I`ll hear this tomorrow.

hey, if none of the other guys take you up for a bass track, I`d be happy to give you a hand with it.

SOLD!!!!

I was hoping you'd stop by. Auction's over, folks...the cavalry has arrived.

And the best part is, you haven't heard it yet, so you have no idea what a mess you've gotten yourself into... Yeah Kenny, I don't know what you need, but the tunes straight up at 135BPM, and I think some busy bass under the guitar intro would be cool too. Lemme' know. (yesssss)

mbuster - I'm totally not married to that idea, btw...I have this thing about OVERUSING a melody that I like...just pounding it into the ground, and it usually makes me burn out on a tune pretty quickly, so do your thing.

vocal track is not a problem...you said stereo, so are you wanting the background vox too? Either way, it's a 2 minute deal, just let me know exactly what you want, and I'll upload them. Thanks again, man.

Sorry Chris. I was referring to the panning and levels. The BG's tend to take over IMO. Like just about everything I say, it's just opinion, but I think they're panned a bit too wide, and might actually be louder than the lead in a lot of spots. You might have a reason for doing that you could share? Probably just sounds cool to ya, which is a good enough answer.

"wetter" version is up if anybody cares to compare.

Why certainly...it's all part of my secret plan to suck.

:D

Okay, the panning I have a legitimate reason for...I split them pretty wide when tracking so it's easier to catch sync and pitch issues...or easier to isolate them. As far as the levels, there's no (good) reason for that... Now, if I could squish them down flatter than a dime with the C4 right quick, I think we'll have that problem licked, lol...but I'm not doing that for this mix.

I used a few different verbs and chorus FX, and I tried to fatten up the kick a little with EQ. I also limited the mix more in line with what I usually do...I've stayed away from any post mix EQ/compression so far...and it still needs a bass.

It'd be cool to see which version sounds less offensive at this point. Everything I did is on a bus, so it's nothing to go backwards from here, lol.

thanks.

Oh My GOD!!! Hehehee...I swear on my mother's grave, there's not any...but I also know that you're right...mbuster wasn't totally kidding when he said I sing like it. The reason your post is so funny, is because I was JUST telling Jamal on MSN that I sang one of my backups using my typical nasally backup vocal voice (all vowel), and I solo'd it to see if it was okay, and I heard (*gulp*) Autotune on it...I literally did a double take ...My voice kinda' cracked in the middle of the note when I was going up, and ... oh well, suffice it to say, I resang that backup, lol.

Don't feel bad...it could be worse. I could sing like a HUGE WAVERING CHORUS...lol. I guess that's reserved for Ozzy.

Chris, you must be a cyborg!

Makes me think....why the hell are you still using that friggin' autotuner? It really sounds autotuned. And it's all natural! Curious....

If you teach Shania how to do that, Mutt can stay in bed... :)

Btw, you still want me to play my gay bass on this?

Actually, I can get by without the vox track for a while. Hey, if Toki gives you a cool bass line can I have it?

downloading now. I like the 2nd mix, its got more warmth to it. very good tune there. sung well, played well, recorded well. The movements are sensible and fit logicaly. some may mistake that for being commercial, its not, it just fits real well together ( I call it sellable). I like the intro. I`m not sure what I`d do there just yet but its cool. I see Ped finally got around to posting also. :) Let me know if you still want me to cut it for you. Either one of us could pull it off ok I think.

Woohoo, one short holiday and the board exploded!....jeez.....I hope I can find to listen to all these dry recordings!

Unfortunately I don't have any dry recordings that apply, I have the nasty habit to record vocals with a compressor in my signal chain :(

well, there is one extremely dry (and embarrassing) recording in James' latest thread

Off subject ...

Regarding "What Do You Want" ...... yep, that's what I was looking for, and then some !!! Definitely a 180 degree departure from your previous posts (although, does this count since it was a collaboration?).

Even though WDYW has a harder edge, I like your vocals better on "Time to Leave". On WDYW, I can instantly recognize the "patented" Chrisharris vocal (NOTE: That's not a bad thing). But, I think it's cool that on TtL you could sound considerably different. I prefer albums where the lead vocal isn't always the same from song-to-song - either different lead vocalists, or the defacto lead vocalist can change is vocal personality.

Rock on dude!!!

Hey, hell no. You only get his bass track if it sucks...and it won't, so HA!

Kidding, lol...of COURSE you get the bass track...I don't think you're getting the big picture here yet, man...I'm officially done with tracking/mixing this one. I want huge guitars and bass tones that don't make me throw my CD out the window at 70mph (yes, I recently littered, lol).

Pedullist - Here I was all paranoid that the bass players were just avoiding me... :D Thanks for the generous offer, but you mentioned Autotune, in your post...soooooo...lmao ;). Naw, I have another tune I need your help on, and I don't wanna' turn into some Jamal Buchet or something, bugging people for tracks...hehehe...Plus, I'm thinking Ken's subdued chorus tone might be just the thing for this one. (still friends? ;( ;) :D ).

Now, ideally, BOTH of you would take a crack at it, then we could post the results here in the clinic in the form of a poll, so it could get all competetive and mean and stuff. THAT would rock. You know, something like:

"Who's The Better Bassist...and Human Being?"

* Toki __

Man, that would be the bomb.

Seriously, I think there are actually going to be 2 totally different mixes of this song... (this one, and mbuster's), with the only common element being my vocal tracks...so if you don't mind doing 2 songs in a fairly short time period, (requiring you to listen to my sine-like pseudo-tune voice in the cans) then that'd be cool.

bpoco - hehehee...cool of you to comment on that tune. I get bored with lead singers too; one of my favorite bands (this won't surprise anybody) is the Eagles, for that very reason...Every damned person in the band sang lead vocal on at least one cut per album (even joe walsh, lol). Anyway, that tune was all mbuster (recording/mixing, etc.)...he just let me hillbilly-ize it. :D

Just so we're clear on this, I am NOT one of those people who considers "commercial" to be a bad word, lol. :D - It's a great freaking word. Please, contribute to the "sellable" factor of this. If somebody wanted to use it to sell cheese, I'd be totally cool with that, lmao.

BTW - Don't sweat the intro thing at all...I had the decency to record it to a metronome just in case inspiration hit somebody...The bass part under that guitar was actually "joro's" idea, but I think it's a good one...like Pearl Jam's "Jeremy," only totally uncool and hickish :D :D - If something strikes you, run with it...if not, that guitar's got enough low end to move an elephant anyway. :D

Thanks for your offer on this, btw.

:) 'taint no problem at all. I got one I need to get tracked for Joro as well. He has some interesting and "out there" ideas too. I have an angle on the intro for this one but I`ll have to carve it out and listen. I`ll post you something back in a couple of days, maybe the weekend.

ROFLSCAOHP! :D

I love the 'the Human Being' contest in particular. So sick it's wonderful...

I'd lose of course, with at least one flame war per 1000 posts. I believe Toki is flamewarfree? :)

NOW I'm intrigued... :D

Seriously, listening at work is risky (and listening at home is damn near impossible), but I'll try.

Meantime, the accolades of the rest of the guys have gotta be making you happy...

your crazy chris, but it goes with your hair so well :)

:D I did one of those bass contests one time back when I was about 14. I had an Ayar guitar with just the 4 wound strings and a Hilgen amp with one 10". I lost cause a guy showed up with a real bass, no amp, and didnt know how to play it but he got the job in a three piece band. Actually it was cool cause while the guitar player was teaching him "Satisfaction" I was hookin up, and got some fine smackymouf, with a fine 12 yr old woman! :D
