I have an opportunity to buy two of these for $2400 from an old guy that's getting rid of all his recording stuff. I think I'll buy them if I can scrape the dough together. Did there used to be a UA 1176 (no LN) that was all tube baack in the day?

Thanks,
RF

Nope. But the design is supposedly based on the 175A and 176 vacuum tube compressors, but I guess only Bill Putnam really knows. :)

$2400? Are they really that good? Wow...

1176

worth it who knows but they are killer -- and $2400 for 2 isn't bad, i don't think.

but it's still $2400.

If they are blackface models I wouldn't hesitiate - go on e-bay and check what recent auctions have brought (assuming they are in decent condition).

I wouldn't do it for silver ones, however. The demand is much lower for those.

The new reissues from Purple Audio and UA sell for close to $2000 new, I think. And the original ones are more highly prized by the gear sluts. If you don't want to buy them, tell the guy to put a notice up around here. They won't last 24 hours at that price (if they are blackface and working well).

Son of a Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitch!!

They WERE the black face ones and he ended up selling them both for $2000.

:( :( :( :( :( :(

Go pick up a new one for 1300 and get a warranty with it.

I agree...I think the possiblity of hearing the difference on home recordings would be tough to hear. Personally, not mentioning the musicality of the dang unit, they are rather 'restrictive' in adjustments. (what ratio did ya supposedly get when you push all the buttons in:eek: ?)

The UA 1176`s are just as good as the old one`s.
The Purple Audios`s are even better(improved powersupply)
