Hello again. My band Omnisoul (http://www.omnisoul.com) has just begun recording our first full album. So far, we have recorded one drum track (we just started 2 days ago), and since this is my first serious attempt at recording acoustic drums, feedback would be appreciated. Bass, electric guitar, and keys are also in the mix, but they are only scratch tracks and are full of performance flubs.
We recorded a DW drum set in my living room with these funky sticks. Imagine 20 thin sticks taped together at the handle and middle. They give a very unique sound while still sounding natural. As for the recording process:
The top and bottom of the snare was mic'ed with an SM-57
Octava MC-012's on the overheads. One 2 feet behind the drummer's left sholder and one in front of the drum set on the right.
An AKG D112 was on the beater side of the BD pointing away from the snare towards the beater.
A large diaphram dynamic Shure was placed inside of a Tamma BD resting on the ground in front of the DW BD to act as a resonator.
A small diaphram Shure condenser went on the hat.
The Studio Projects C-1 picked up the room sound.
One interesting fun fact was that the funky drum sticks could not produce an acceptable side stick sound, so those were overdubbed later with regular sticks.
So, here's the link. Thanks in advance for feedback.
