Djembes Rock
I'm looking for an uncolored compressor plugin that is equal in quality to the UAD-1 plugs. Any suggestions?

Sonitus (now from Cakewalk) is fairly neutral as is the 'Timeworks' (I have the red one, I think they have a few versions though.

PSP is really very coloured.
It has a "less coloured" mode, but it still has its own sound.
It is a fantastic-sounding compressor, but it is definitely not uncoloured.

the psp MASTERcomp

i have to humbly disagree...its compression is smooth but doesn't add any nasty artifacts. YMMV

Didn't say it wasn't smooth or that there were any "nasty artifacts!"
It just has a little bit of a colour to it.
From their own advertising:

"high fidelity single band stereo mastering compressor with distinctive sound "

Distinctive sound=colour

Depends on what they mean by "distinctive."

Could mean "distinctively uncolored." Distinctively transparent (?) Distinctive in it's lack of color. Distinctively unflattering?

It's no coincidence that "uncolored compressor plugin" sits in the dictionary right between "UFO" and "unicorn".

Funny. You know just yesterday I was thinking that, as I realized my choices were Fairchild, LA2A, and 1176. I ended up using the channel strip compressor, and eagerly awaiting the release of the Precision Multi-Band (which presumably can be set to a single band and is as transparent as the other Precision plugs).

I've got to second the vote for the Sonitus from Cakewalk. It seems very uncolored to me in comparison to both other plug-ins and outboard compressors that I have.

I love the Waves C1 and RComp...both pretty transparent...and great sounding. Especially when used together.

If you want to though you can set both of them so that you can hear them.

what about the Kjaerhus Audio Golden compressor, anyone used this plugin much

i've got the demo and quite like it

I second this.
