I write a MIDI track, and it plays back successfully. I then record an audio track, and my MIDI track becomes a mess. Large sections of it audible drop out, and even wrong MIDI notes are hit.

I am using Cakewalk Pro 8.0, a Roland XP-10, a standard joystick port for my MIDI, and a standard ISA soundcard for the audio.

My PC meets the minimum system requirments. Even after recording my system resources are still in the upper 80s.

My guess is that I might have a crappy sound card, but I'd like to find out if it could be some sort of configuration.

Thanks

Standard game ports are not necessarily useable for MIDI interfaces, are they? I know that the Sound Blaster and similar cards have a combined joystick/MIDI port. Is this what you're using?

maybe you could try to write a midi track that uses the onboard sounds of your soundcard (if it has any). If that plays in sync with your audiotrack, then it sure looks like it could be the joystick port that's giving trouble...

greetings..
