Unable to switch to 24 bit

I'm starting new projects with sonar 4 and when I switch to 24 bit, I get the error: the default audio format is not compatible with one or more sound cards. it has been rest to 44100 hz 16 bit". My card is audiophile 2496

I disabled AC97 in the BIOS which says that is for the onboard audio. Is there any way else to disable the onboard audio?

I'm also used PODXT

You can try disabling the drivers in both Windows and Sonar.

In Windows, go to the Device Manager and find Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Locate your onboard sound card in the list, right click and choose properties. On the General Tab, find the drop down for Device Usage, and disable it.

In Sonar, go to Options> Audio> Drivers and disable the onboard card there as well. Then go the General Tab and run the Wave Profiler.

The USB cable was connected to the PODXT so I was able to switch to 24 after I unplugged. I'm guessing the XT driver was restricting sonar from switching to 24.
