I'm recording in stereo and hard panning left and right on different channels, but I'm not hearing it in stereo until I mix everything down. It's totally frustrating me. Up till now I've been working around it just trying to imagine what it sounds like in stereo and then mixing it down to hear it. My headphones are stereo phones and everything is routed through correctly in the software all the way to the HDSP mixer on my RME Hammerfall card, so it's got to be a routing issue within the mixer that is merging the right and left signals to both sides. It's not like I'm hearing through only one ear. It's like the signal's being converted to mono somewhere in the board. In my DIO/SETUP panel at the bottom of the MONITOR tab, there's an option for mono, but this isn't selected. Just as an example, I'm going to use Sonar 4 and an old throw-away project. The same thing happens no matter what app I use and try to monitor the sound. It's an o1v96 issue. I just never took any routing classes or anything. The answer is probably totally simple too.
When I pan hard Left, the soundcard outs jump like this:
When I pan hard Right, it does exactly what it should like this:
And my 01v96 monitor settings look like this:
But the stereo levels on the home meter jump like this no matter how the audio is panned:
Anybody help?
