Ummm...Help!

Hey evry1. I'm a newbie and don't really know wats goin on. I'm not quite sure wat i need 2 get started, but i do have this laptop, a mic., and i'm working on buying a software program. Problem is, my laptop has a static effect when i record with the sound recorder it came with. It sounds fine with CD's and stuff. My dad told me it can't be fixed, but thought it could have something to do with using a good microphone. I haven't tried my mic. yet bcuz i don't have an adapter for it yet, but it isn't top of the line or anything. Could somebody tell me how to fix it, if you can???Amber
 
Sound recorder is really only designed for short vocal clips at a low resolution.
You need to get a program for better recordings. Their are several free ones and demos to try out.
Also, the onboard soundcard in your laptop is probably low end as well. Depending on what you are attemping to do, you may need an interface to tie in via USB or PCMIA
 
Well, i am working on buying a new program, but I just wanted to make sure that after I bought this and installed it that it woudn't make this static sound. But if i got a new soundcard it would more than likely fix the problem? And wat's this interface thing your talking about???
 
What's up, Amber. I know that you are new to recording, so I'll try to keep this simple. ;)

You will need to purchase a better soundcard. Considering the fact that you have a laptop, you'll be better off purchasing an external soundcard that connects through your USB port or your FIREWIRE port. There are a multitude of cards to choose from, but I would suggest that you start here.... http://www.midiman.net/products/m-audio/USBaudio.php

You will also need to buy a "sound editor", such as Wavelab 4.0, Sound Forge 7.0, etc...

All of the music program companies have demo versions of their software (at their respective sites). You should try them all out to see which one you are most comfortable using (before buying the software).
