Hi all

I am new to this so apologies if the answers are already in here somewhere. I have read as much as I can and learned a lot already (thanks to Beck especially). I have a couple of questions though:

1. Which is the best tape for a Revox B77 for general tracking and mastering work? Does it depend how the machine is set up or is there a 'best list' and 'ok list' I can work from?
2. What are good UK sources (other than eBay) for tape? I have found some links on the forum but many are from several years ago and are no longer there or no longer supplying. What price should I be expecting to pay for 10.5in reels?

Thanks in advance
Tim

I'd recommend RMGI 911. I'm not sure what the B77HS came factory set for (mine had already been set up for 911 when I bought it), but it's the next best thing to 456 and the B77 can handle it no problem.

Usually you can get it from Studiospares, though they're out of stock right now.

Try this: RMG 911 1/4 x 10.5

If you are going to try to align your B77, be careful.

I had one, and the trim pots broke when I tried to turn them. I'd pull the cards out and do a careful inspection before turning them.

Great thanks - I have someone sorting it for me (wouldn't know where to start!).

Thanks for the link - I did find Studiospares and was a bit worried because people like Canford seem to be discontinuing, Studiospares were out of stock etc.

Ok I have a further question. If you buy the pancake version, can you run it onto a spare reel (which I have) using the B77, or do you need something special to handle it? It's much cheaper on pancake!

The best approach is to dismantle the reel and attach the flanges to the core of the pancake.
