Suck 'em and see!
I'm thinking about buying the UAD-1 Studio Pack (PCI)

Can someone confirm that all the PCI UAD-1 cards are the same and the only defference between the packages is the assortment of plugins that come with them?

I was thinking maybe the more expensive packages had a better card that could handle more plugs but can't find any information to support or condemn it.

And what would be a typical plugin count before the card starts to struggle?

I'm running a 3Gig Pentium IV on an ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe mobo with 800Mhz FSB, 2 gig of DDR400 in dual channel mode (4 x 512mb)

The CPU on the card itself is the same on all versions. When you buy a different "package", the only differences are the included plugin licenses you get with the card. You can of course add plugins later by purchasing a license from UA.

There IS however a PCI and a PCI-E version of the card.

The plugin count is different for each plugin. Some plugins you can only run about 4 instances of. Others, you can run 30 instances of!

Thanks for clearing that up, FV...and yeah I'm aware there is a PCIe version too, I'm just not as worried as some others around here about PCI becoming a thing of the past in the near future. :)

Waves is fine
But UAD's quicker
DSP addiction is suicide for VST-ers

Apologies to Ozzy . . . :o

Just got me the UAD-1 project pak. Haven't opened it incase I need to return and all. Have some questions.

The box says it's compatible with Pro Tools 7. Does anyone know or have used it with M-Powered Pro Tools 7?

It comes with VST Wrapper. I've heard mixed reviews about this product, both good and bad. Anyone have any problems with the Wrapper?

Can anyone tell me how many times each fx can be used simultaneouslly?

The wrapper is from fxpansion. It works fine. I used it when I had M-powered installed on my machine.
