Typical n00b. I want an area to record some demos, just acoustic guitar, micing some amps, mostly vocals. Nothing special.

I have a (roughly) 8ft x 8ft area to have for recording. My computer/editing area is outside of that room, I'll just have the cables run to my mixer. The other room is about 12' away from that room. I can have the cables run along the floor or ceiling.

So the equipment/area is good for me, dont need windows, or a "control room". Im in the basement, and want to have that 8 ft x 8 ft room soundproofed for as little as I possibly can.

Here are three pictures of the room. Right now, there are no walls seperating it from another room beside it, and no door, but that is a given. It is also right near the furnace.

Are you trying to keep sound in or out? Are those stairs running over the room?
 
No, the stairs are a bit further away.

Want a good area for the vocals and acoustic guitar to record. So yeah, keeping sound out. An ideal area for the best sound, at the lowest possible price.

Just a thought - for what it's worth - there is no difference....... any assembly works exactly the same in both directions.......... so the only question with isolation becomes that of what the required assembly rating is........ not where the source is.

That's the point--the required assembly rating. Drums are a lot louder than the TV in the next room :)
 
Well, isolation requires construction, which doesn't have to be expensive, but it could be involved.

How willing are you to tear off the drywall? What's your budget?

One approach would be an exterior door with weatherstripping, insulate inside the walls, and hang two layers of drywall on resilient channel. Redo the existing vent with a long length of flexible duct to a larger vent. Hang a few sheets of rigid fiberglass insulation on the walls, and maybe one from the ceiling.

For a 8'x8' room, that would be somewhere between $500 and $1,000 in materials.

How about a floorplan? Can you post that, showing adjacent rooms too?
 
Ill work on making one. I have the floorplan of my house, but no scanner. I'll work on one. Any good programs for that?

Its beside a laundry room with a furnace, a bedroom, the stairs, and a living room. Not many people down here, but some people walking around up stairs.
