P.S. Is it me, or is the opening of Jesus Christ Superstar nothing more than a reworking of the Infernal Danse? Or am I just stating the obvious?

I never thought about it! Sure, I can definitely see it. Firebird probably influenced a LOT of film scores too. The other one is Carmina Burana, I think its a Hollywood law that it has to be in EVERY MOVIE, or at least a ripoff of it.

That's true, but JCS was originally a stage play by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Weber. Ian Gillan was the original Jesus!

Yes I knew this, hence the word too. The movie Overture is a little different, its more complex and a lil longer. I have the Ian Gillian Original as well as the movie soundtrack.

Gotcha.... I have the stage soundtrack on vinyl as well.

Not to sidetrack this thread any further, but I've heard the new DVD version of the movie has been remixed so you can actually hear the music.

i thought the same.

not radically different but Mastered more pleasent. some mid-range sounds were gone. Master maybe slighty louder...subtle and very easy to listen to.

both were ok in opinion.

Infernal Danse and Aquarium

I just got these back today. Would like to hear any comments you may have.

Absolutely bloody fantastic!

The Infernal Danse is so crystal clear and alive!..A very well done piece of work from the playing to the recording and Mastering!

Just checking out the unmastered vs mastered sample you have of Danse....

Not as much of a difference as with the Infernal song, but that devil's violin was (I thought) smoother. The rest was subtle smoothing of the track. Volumes were in this case fairly similar.

I also sat back to listen to Aquarium - such an awesome piece. Tons of incredible synth work here. Your violin work continues to be my favorite part of this and the other tunes though, it's so powerful and dynamic.

Comparing my MP3 of the unmastered version to the mastered version was pretty much the same as with Infernal Danse. The levels were lower and less highs on the mastered version. But it still retained all of the dynamics. "Smooth" continues to be an adjective that fits the effect of the mastering.

Congrats on the the three CD deal - I thought it was for one CD only - that's great and you are most deserving of the deal.

I'm looking forward to hearing the other tunes on your CD when it is released....

Thanks for checkin it out Gerry. I think the levels could be low because somebody copied it wrong, I dont know. I didnt get this from the ME, its a copy of one the record label got for reference. The CEO tells me the levels are fine. I am kinda hoping they are louder, cause some are way too low.

Only way that the levels can be changed is if someone imprted the song to a music software programme and knowingly decreased the volume, or if for some reason, the track was recorded to another source from the original recording and the tracking level was decreased.

Its easy enough to add a few dBs to the master with a brickwall limiter.
If you need this done I will do it for free as its a very simple, and fast job.
I usually go for around -10 RMS average (at the loudest parts of songs-choruses usually), which is the average loudness of the song.

We are done with it, the booklet is being printed and it looks great, we got a really good graphic designer to do it. I got to write the Liner notes They are geeky classical notes, I explain the history of doing this type of music, from Stokowski arrangements to Tomita and Switched on Bach, ELP and Yes etc.

I did get one cool thing in the booklet:

Bea Arthur is in the Thank-yous! I had to fight for it but they were super cool and let it in. This label is small and very friendly. Page 7:

Way off topic but ....how do you get such a big high res picture on the post. All I can ever get is a tiny blurry thing of 68kb.
