I was wondering what exactly is mastering, and what equipment do you need for mastering?

and I guess ill ask this here cause im thinking this might be apart of mastering.

When you've got all your stuff done and recorded, how do i make a full fludge CD without sending it off, like do i buy a whole lotta blank CDs, and sticker em or what lol?

So you figure mastering might be part of mastering?

Sorry, I don't follow that logic, you lost me......

I like my fludge in a hot-fludge sundae.

ahah sorry i typed that to fast, ok:

What exactly is mixing and mastering and what do you need to do this

also

when you've got all your stuff recorded, what do you do, buy blank CDs and slap on your cover or what?

You need to read up in the newbies forum. You have so much to learn - don't even worry about burning CDs yet.

Mastering !!!

Mastering is something you just shouldn't do at home....Especially if you have to ask what it is.
There are things you can do to get the volume up and balance all the tracks which will go a long way to improving your CD, but it's just not mastering. Most mastering engineers have been involved in audio for a long time and built up skills and perception you just can't buy in a plugin.
As a token of faith to show you I'm not a complete misery guts here's a link for you in regards to EQ.... This is aimed at people that haven't put in the hard yards yet...

In regards to burning CD's of your music don't skimp on the quality. Get reputable brand disks to enable broadest possible playability and minimal jitter.

Or is this another one of those "let's make fun of the stupid questions people ask" threads?

And all of that advice is readily available in the newbie forum :)

No, If someone says "How do I do brain surgery?" You try and stop them by pointing out that what's involved is beyond simple "Cut here, fold back there and scoop out that gunky stuff"....

Ah, you misunderstood, I wasn't referring to your reply. I actually was joking that maybe this was one of those threads where someone asked a dumb question on purpose. This post was borderline, it wasn't obvious. Here's an obvious one: https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=197063

You're right with the brain surgery comparison. Although if someone wants to try to master something at home at least their not gonna kill anyone. I don't see how it hurts for someone who is interested to study the subject and give it a try if they'd like. Of course someone who doesn't even know what mastering is, certainly isn't gonna have a lot of luck at first ;)
