Two questions about audiophile

i have the 2496 and i was wondering how i would be able to get a mic into the card, by a preamp then xlr to 1/4 converter? I am also going to be getting a pair of active monitors, do i need to inputs for my sound card to monitor with both? thanks guys

actually i just noticed that the 2496 doesnt have 1/4 inputs, am i going to have to get a different card to monitor?

I have an Audiophile 2496 PCI card as well (in addition to my Delta 1010).

You need a mic preamp to amplify the mic's signal (this will run from the XLR out of the mic into the XLR into the preamp). Then, assuming the preamp has 1/4in outputs, you will need a 1/4" to RCA cable (or cable with adapters) to connect the preamp output to the RCA input on the 2496 card. If the preamp only has XLR outputs, you will need an XLR to RCA cable (or cable with adapters).

The 2496 has 2 inputs and 2 outputs. You could hook up 2 channels of mics to the inputs.

For the monitors, you will hook them up to the outputs on the 2496 card. You will need appropriate RCA to XLR (or 1/4") cables for that.

thanks for the help so far, how many rca ins does the 2496 have, because i will be using one spdif in for my Vamp for guitar, is the spdif in also the same in i would use for my monitors? and lastly do i need to different inputs for the monitors?

You don't connect inputs to monitors, you connect the outputs. You have these connections on your card:
2 x RCA analogue inputs (connect the outs of your preamps to these)
2 x RCA analogue outputs (connect your monitors to these)
1 x spdif input (connect whatever digital device you want to these)
1 x spdif output (same as inputs, only outputs)

That's all you have to remember. If the inputs of a device have a different connector than the outputs of the other device, all you have to do is find/make a cable/adapter that has the needed connectors.

When recording the VAmp, or if you just want to listen to the VAmp through the computer/sound card, you will have to set the "Master Clock" on the M-Audio Control panel "Hardware Settings" tab to s/pdif. Set it back to internal when the VAmp is off or if it is not necessary to monitor it.
