Anyone ever play an 8-string? It's like playing a 12-string guitar. Wicked tone....
I just sold a 12-string on Ebay. The ax! Creates a wall of sound! I tuned it eeEaaAddDggG, with the 1 rank of string slightly flat to fake a chorusy sound. O nly sold it because it begged to be played and it was just too much for what I'm doing.

Hey did somebody just mention a 100 page thread?

*everybody gasps in horror as that raging dumbass Purge pops his stupid head up*
Holy Ka-rap... a 100 page thread in a forum that the posts count?

Buwahahaha...

*imagining the possibilities*

Rokket, the 6-string bass tunes nearly like a baritone guitar (which I didn't know till ya posted the notes), which tunes B, E, A, D, F#, B. In the future, I plan to add a baritone guitar and a 12-string bass to my axe count. I once heard a band on Letterman or Leno that used a 12-string bass, and I was impressed with the sound.

(doing my part to reach 100...if that's possible :))

Actually, EUB tuning is more flexible than guitar tuning. A number of bassists use the tuning you stated, but the majority use a straight 4ths tuning.(BEADGF) There's also a growing group that EADGFC. There's even a group that uses F#BEADG, but, not many rigs can pull that off.
I've even read of a guy using a CDFC tuning. I don't no how that works.

I find it easiest to tune using harmonics. (especially when the dang drummer won't stop banging on his fortress he calls a drum set)

(one post closer to 100!)

Yeah, I played a six string for awhile, but I never found myself using the C string, so I went back to a five. I have an ESP B-205 with active HMG's that I love the tone of. My next amp is going to be a Gallien Krueger. I am still trying to figure out which one. I played through one a few years ago when the band I was in was the opening act for a Jimmy Buffet tribute band. I was instantly hooked.
I don't mess around with the tuning on my bass. I find that I just confuse my dumb ass when I do. When I was still playing a four string, I used to D-tune quite a bit when everyone started using dropped-D tuning, but that got old. If you didn't play a whole set of dropped-D songs, there was always the uncomfortable silence while you retuned. We got around that by ending that set with a drum solo while we all ran for the chromatic tuner, but still...

This is the bass amp for me! Now, who can loan me $1500?

Nah, you don't want that! You need a rig!

I just had to read this post to figure out how a question would about tuning a bass could turn into a two page thread......

There ya' go! That's how to put fear in the heart of guitar-players and other criminals! :D

Bass guitar tuning by frequency

By the way, if you want to know the frequencies used to tune your bass guitar, they are:

E: 41Hz
A: 55Hz
D: 74Hz
G: 98Hz

With a little luck and perseverence, nobody will know what this was about.
