I have an art tube mp and was thinking of replacing the tube. I have no experience with tubes so i'd like to know what kind i have to replace it with and if there's one particularily good one for the mp. Also how would i go about replacing it, assuming that it's worth it?

assuming that it's worth it?

That is the Million Dollar question!! and the answer is "Don"t Bother"....

Those tube preamps aren"t even real tube preamps, they are actually 95% solid state and the tube is used in a "Starved Plate" configuration just to add harmonic Distortion which some poeple think is the "Tube Sound" but it is Just extra Noise and Preamps are supposed to be Noise free ,as much as possible....

I would simply save up your money and get a better preamp as a new tube isn"t going to make any real differance......

Cheers

No, The Pro MPA is a different animal ,It is actually a real Tube Preamp that uses a High Voltage Power supply..The Art Tube MP is a cheapo $50 unit that uses a 9-12v Adapter the Pro MPA is a Real Tube preamp.. Changeing out the Tubes on this unit could Yeild some Improvement if good quality tubes are used.....

Good luck
