I recently bought a tube for my Rode K2 after making a post on here and reading from kidvybes old posts. I ended up getting an RCA (Holland) Gold Pin 6922 (6DJ8) off of Ebay. Well, the tube just arrived today and I put it in the mic and the mic sounded terrible. It worked but it was very scratchy sounding and definatly unusable. I put the original back in and it works fine like before. Does the pins need cleaning. Is this somehow the wrong tube? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

...before you trash that tube you bought, give the pins a good cleaning with a contact cleaner/conductive fluid (Radioshack sells a couple of different ones)...very often, on older tubes, the pins have enough oxidized residue on them to create conductivity issues...

...make sure you wipe any excess fluid off the pins before mounting the tube in your mic... ;)

Ok thanks for the advice. I'll give that a try tomorrow. What is the best thing to clean with. I was thinking maybe a Q-tip plus the fluid. Is there any better way?

Also, the tube seems to be a little bit smaller than the stock tube. It fits fine but the glass part is not as big. Is this normal?

...clean with a paper towel, cotton swab, whatever...just give each pin a good wiping, and dry well before plugging into the tube socket...
...slight variations in tube size is not unusual...
