I have a tascam 788 that I would like to use as a master to slave with a dmt8. I'm not sure how this works (or if it can). They both have midi in/out, so i went out of the tascam into the dmt8 with midi. I want to master the midi with the tascam and add 8 more tracks with the dmt8. Do I record a sync track on both? Does it use mtc or midi?
Any info. on the process of how this works would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Hi, If they both have midi then it should be possible. I have a 788 and used to link it with my Tascam 564. You'll need to connect the the midi out of the 788 to the midi in of the DMT8. I'm not at my 788 right now so this maybe not be wholely accurate but you'll need to go to the menu on the 788 and select the song you want. Once loaded go back to the menu and select sync you'll need to change the settings here. I think you'll select MMC (Midi Machine Control) because you want to control another machine. Select that and that should be all you to do. Also when looking at the sync screen make sure the top option is "INT" not "EXT" as "EXT means the 788 will be looking to reveive a midi signal not send one. Now I don't know the DMT8 but there should be a sync menu you can access. You'll need to change the settings here. It will be something like "Slave" or "Master" - "Int" or "EXT - just use your common sense anything that means receive a signal i.e. Slave or external etc. Make sure any of the other settings match those on the 788 and you should be all set. The last thing you usually have to is to press play on the DMT8. If you've set it up correctly it should Flash and not play the Flashing means its waiting for you to press play on the 788 that will start both machines. From there you 'll have to manually put them into record.

hope that helps good luck
