Seeker of Rock

Let us be unburdened by that which has been ?
Here is a photo of the engraved logo(sorry...see next post down). Three dots version, but notice the Arabic symbol in the lower right of the Arabic engraving does not "hook" like other logos I've seen. No ink lettering on it, but the set is very thin feeling in weight compared to my ZBT rock hats. Much less bright, and not a very loud "chick". I think they sound "trashy" closed, but not so open. Anyone have any idea of when they are from by the logo? Searches have left me confused because I haven't found the straight "hook".

Guess I forgot the photo....sorry.

You can't accurately date Zildjian cymbals beforethe mid-80s when they started using any sort of system with serial numbers.

I can't see the picture...

Oh, yes I can. The stamp looks the same as my cymbals, but I haven't tried to date them, mine're definitely mid-60s to early 70s. Other than that I can't really help :P

60s/70s is what I have them narrowed to...I think. I've been googling for a couple of hours and still haven't found a chronological fit for them.:(

Yeah, I saw that in my googling. But it clearly has the "hook" to the lower right Arabic cymbal, but otherwise seems a dead on match. I'll have to check the bottom one and see if it has the full hook on that little Arabic symbol in the lower right.

I've got a 20" crash/ride with the 40's/50's 'deep Z' stamp, been playing thrash on it for 20-something years... Should probably retire it.

This is why I like Paistes. They don't have all that terrorist writing on them. :D

Controversial! Shame they don't sound very nice, eh?;)

I once tried to date a Zildjian. Had to buy it dinner, take it to movies. It wasn't worth the effort.
I'd much rather screw a Sabian.

You had one of those fancy Zildjians. The ZBT's will put out for anyone.

Trying to date a Zildjian hat set
You might want to just go out and find yourself a girl. Hats need too much attention and tend to have the clap.

I think your missing hook fell into the lathe groove.
The 60's was a great time for music, don't be disappointed.

I just clubbed it over the head and dragged it to the stand, one night stand of course. Didn't know so many triple As were still over here.

I read through that article in my google searching, but thanks for the thought:):)

Actually...the serialized stamps started around '94...not the mid-80's...and prior to that time, there is enough variation in the stamp...size, depth, location, imperfections, etc...that an experienced cymbal collector can narrow the date to within several years. The specific year is is irrelevant, because the value of the cymbal is determined by era and condition. Understand...it's not necessarily valuable because it was made in 1975 opposed to 1979...or whatever. What matters is that the cymbal was made in Canada, Turkey, US, pre-Avedis, post-Avedis...etc. I'm not saying any of that applies to the cymbal above...just in general.

Seeker...go to www.Cymbalholic.com There you will find a section with all the variations of the Zildjian logo and their approximate dates.

I see MidiPunk already posted a timeline....

Oops, I meant mid-90s:D

I didn't know the other stuff though. This thread has made me look at my cymbals a bit more :P
I can't seem to find the trademark between 60s and 70s cymbals though?
