I got my Monette in the US.
…and this happened when my country’s money matched the value of US$. 1999.

I cannot go overseas anymore just to buy a mic.

So I decided I will be happy with the best thing I can find here, where I live: Sao Paulo - Brazil.

Thanks for your help!!!
Without this help I couldn't make the decision I made.

I tested some mics and ENJOYED the e609.
I'm happy with it, because this was the best I could get.
(Lot better than the Shures - from the sound I heard out of them)

Thanks again!!!
COngrats! As long as you are happy, that is awesome!

Still should try ribbons when you get a chance. :)

All the pro guys that I know use ribbons live too with everything from Classical Trumpet to Dirty Dozen Brass band To canadian brass to Brian Setzer....never any mention of these issues..

LOL. Ask them what mics they'd use for 5 horns in a 15 piece band with bass, drums, electric guitars, and 5kW of monitors on a 12 by 25 foot stage in a 250 person club. You gotta take these things into consideration.

I have a pretty decent ribbon mic, I use it where and when I can. When I can't, I don't. If I could only buy one mic to use at lots of different types of gigs, it would be something like Abundrefo bought.

I think he is saying the same thing I did above. If cost is a major issue, look to an SM57 as it will get the job done and not cost a lot. If you have more money to spend, look to an MD421. Either mic can be used live or in the studio.

yup

nope. '57 sucks on trumpet, 421 pretty lame too but somewhat more acceptable than a '57. Get an re-20 used on ebay for $350. Sheeesh . . . .

hes already bought the mic actually, highspeed.

When you get the dough, Abundrefo, listen to sweetnubs suggestion. Good advice. Hell, ill send you one of my ribbons to try if you want. Ribbons made for trumpet...and the shinybox isnt expensive at all...

edit..blumpkinman, are you FordVan??? :D

"Brian Setzer's soundguy didn't say anything about having problems with Royer mics on the Royer website . So you can use one at your gigs no problem. If you don't, you are a compromising 2 toed fat fingered jackass. I know it's true, because I recorded a few jazz bands last month."

As a full-time live engineer, that'll bring out the FV in me every time. So will things like "If you can afford a nice trumpet, you can afford a nice mic.", but for different reasons. ;)

I'm going out on tour in a month, and plan to use all the best drooly stuff I can get my hands on. The size of the venues and stages, style of music and quality of the musicians make it possible. It's gonna be great. If it wasn't like that, I'd choose the appropriate mics for the job. That's not a compromise, as I see it, that's giving the audience and performers the best for their money. Enough GBF for FOH and monitors so the people can hear what they paid for and the musos can play well is the main goal, not my wet dream mic choices.

Yeah, he should try a ribbon sometime. But not using one isn't a compromise, if it's the right mic for the situation.
