well im new to all this so i have a problem I hope someone will help me with. I just purchased a hp8250i and have been trying to download mp3s from the web and then burn them. But the program i have only recognizes wave files, so how do i get it to notice mps. Iv also had trouble making backups of existing cd's. Any help would be appriciated.

If you want to burn mp3's onto your cd-r, you can only play them on a computer. If you want to play them on a normal cd player, you need to convert them to wav and then burn them as an audio cd.

ok any advice on how to do that ... and will the quality fall if its a wave file?

The whole idea is to make the file small enough to be convenient to transport via an internet connection. Of course the quality will fall to .mp3 levels during the transformation from .mp3 to .wav, but that's the trade-off you're making to speed up the transfer process.
Get hold of music match or Siren. They've both worked pretty well for me without spending any money. Vegas Pro is da kine for .wav to .mp3 conversions, but be prepared to bend over when you present your plastic.
And Emeric: Siren will convert .mp3 directly to .cda (so they say); I use EZ CD Creator and have little reason to experiment.
