Maybe someone can help me out here. Recently, my g/f's PC had been acting pretty goofy, so I got in there and started checking out, piece by piece. I narrowed it down to the harddrive, or so I thought. I tried to just reformat the HD and install windows, after the fresh install, on reboot it would freeze on the loading screen. The HD was still under warranty, so I got ahold of Western Digital and they sent me a new one (have to send the old back within 30 days or they charge me) So I get the new drive, install windows, same damn thing. So needless to say the old HD is probably fine, but in the process I've switched to a few pieces that I had planned on upgrading one of my PCs with, so everything in her PC is brand new, minus the video card (which obviously works because I can get into the bios, install, etc), out of the box. Mobo, CPU, Ram, now brand new harddrive.

I've tried damn near everything I can think of to troubleshoot it, the only thing I can think of at present that I haven't tried is setting the HD to Master. I've always kept my HDs on Cable Select because tinkering with the jumpers has always been a pita for me, but I'm at a loss on what to do otherwise.

Anyone have any suggestions?

By loading screen.. Do you mean.. DIRECTLY after bios.. As in "No Operating System Found"?

Otherwise.. Can't be a jumper on the HD... Try removing all non-critical cards.. Basically anything 'cept the video card.. And try it.. Then, if that works, add them back in one at a time.. Then google the one in question for any known problems...

The loading screen when windows is booting up, with the little scroll bar left to right, right after the bios screen, etc.

Sounds like a driver conflict... Try the card thing...

Thanks Chief! I'll give it a whirl when I get home tonight.

EDIT - er...wait, you say driver conflict? Even though there are no drivers? Or do you mean hardware conflict?

Ehh.. Not exactly... If the computer is setup for ACPI (in bios).. Then the operating system takes care of the hardware and drivers (for the most part) (someone correct me if I'm wrong)... You might try checking that in bios...

If it isn't on.. It might be trying an IRQ conflict of sorts.. In which case. I think having ACPI on will fix...

I gotcha now, Thanks again for the info, I'll gank the modem, Wireless Lan and soundcard when I get home and try it out.
