Trouble syncing Audient Mico to Firepod

I recently bought the Audient Mico preamp and would like to hook up the spdif out to the Firepods spdif input but have had some problems. I'm using an Intel Mac Mini and have downloaded the latest control panel for the Firepod. When I change the sync source to SPDIF the sync light on the Firepod doesn't flash as expected.
Can anyone think why this isn't happening? I've read some threads about a firmware upgrade that disabled spdif but not sure if this applies to macs as well?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm having the same problem syncing my Art Digital MPA to my firepod. Let me know if you get any answers to this outside of the forums.
