Trouble mixing w/Mackie to soundcard

OK - I've tried nearly everything and nothing is working so I thought I'd tap the experts.
I have a mic going into channel 1 of a Mackie 1202. I want to be able to listen to the stereo signal coming out of my soundcard and record just channel one's content back to the LINE input of my soundcard without creating a feedback loop. Now the manual shows the "channel inserts" going into the recorder (LINE IN of soundcard), but that gives me NO control over EQ and such... I would like to use MAIN OUT or any other with the ability to control EQ and GAIN. Is there any help?

Ummmmmm..... U worded that very oddly.....
Are you ONLY using that one channel or do U want to listen to only that channel?
Because if you are using that channel only why not use the main outs =)
and don't forget about the alt 3/4 outs they are post everything so U will get your EQ or whatever else....
