I've been told that you can use a TRITON keyboard and record everything you need on it. How good is that idea

thats true you can do this with a couple of sample cds (drums, synths, percussion, basses, etc) But eventually youre going to want to get more equiptment but you can do A WHOLE LOT with just that. I started off with just an ASR-10 and used that for a while before getting more equipment. If you go that route get an inexpensive turntable for like 39.99 at your local dj shop and some records from Salvation Army and The Goodwill for sampling and you should be set for a while.

Ya not talking about the vocal tracks and all that good stuff are you TJ???

I know cats sample there hooks sometimes but... Verses and all... Doubt it'll be all that good for it.

As far as a beat and sampled hooks... The truth...

If you purchased just a Triton your options would be VERY limited.

Pretty much true

I've got a Triton pro as my centerpiece for constructing tracks. I don't find it to be outstanding as a sampler (some of the commands are awkward and it can be difficult to stretch/slice samples to match beats in my experience) but the sequencer functions are on point. I import all my samples presently from CD's since I don't have a turntable and that works out well. I've wanted to do more with using my own voice for samples, but I've got a condenser mic, and the triton doesnt provide phantom power, so you'll need a dynamic mic to directly sample into the Triton with a mic (otherwise you'll need a pre-amp). I do all my recording into my Yamaha AW16G, which provides power for my mic. I've owned my keyboard for a couple years now and definitely am feeling the itch to expand my basic sounds. The triton is a very reliable board, however...In retrospect, it's somewhat of an odd selection for the brand of hiphop I create.

I have been doing JUST that. However, I have the Triton Studio, which has more capabilities than the Triton.

The TS has 2 HDR tracks, which is a very good place to record vocals. You can still use 16 tracks for sampling, etc..., and then if you want you can bounce tracks down to 1 and keep adding as many as you want.

It's not the "end all be all", but I have put together songs on the Triton from start to finish that sound very professional.

I also run my electric guitar and microphone through the Triton, since the mixer/FX is great.
