hey guys...what's up? i hope all is well.... i have a problem that i haven't being able to figure out through the manual.

when i open a midi file that i made in the triton in sonar and play it there's a sound font from the triton that keeps on playing....after i play the song the first time and hit the space bar to stop it one and only one sound font keeps playing and it doesn't play what i programmed but an endless note.....and listen to this when i go to hit the triton i have to turn it off and then back on to get a sound out of it.....
now....i know that it must be something i didn't turn on or didn't turn off.....something that i need to do but i haven't got it figured out. also when i try to record the midi file as a wav file i hear feedback and it gets recorded on the audio track also..... may be i am not understanding on the manual on how to do it.
could anyone please help? i have anEZBUS sound card.
thanx

When MIDI plays through an external device it sends 'on' and 'off' messages. I'm gussing when you stop Sonar it doesn't get to send the off message, hence the endless note. I'm pretty sure you can send a message to clear all MIDI data... I'm at work and can't remember the command.... check the manual for resetting MIDI devices.

Hi Brand0 :)

You must mean a note/sound, or patch. Not soundfont :D Soundfont is not available in Triton... ;)

For your case, what if you click Panic button on SONAR ?

thanx Porter.... i'll do that as soon as get back home.

My bad Jaymz.....tha'ts what i meant...... the song has one sound on one track that keeps playing the same note and not the sequence with the rest of the song. and i'll try the panic button.
see i am wondering if i have to select something in the triton too...
thanx

The Panic button (as James says) will send the STOP command to all MIDI-devices, and should stop the note(s) from playing.

But you can check under Options -> Project (or was it Global?) to see if there's a setting like "Transmit STOP on halt" or anything like that. (It could be that I'm confusing Sonar with another extremely bad, norwegian sequenser I used before).

cool thanks Moskus.....
but how do i get to play the sequence i programmed in the triton? cuz that continuos note plays instead of the sequence of that track.
thanx

Then you need to sync Sonar to the Triton, and not the other way around. I don't remember how to do this excactly, but Sonar should be set to MIDI sync and you must set the Triton to be the master.

The manuals should explain this better then I can do, especially since I don't know anything about the Triton. ;)

Ugh, sorry to make you wait for long, Brando...

Tough I'm not familiar with Triton, but I am with several Korg synths :)

Here's some tips on MIDI sequencing with SONAR (as well as many other MIDI sequencer application) :

1. Try not to move among tracks, when you still have one track recieving / sending MIDI message (eg. move between tracks while pressing keyboard controller, sustain pedal, etc). It applies while in play mode, record mode, or even stop mode. The notes (or any sent messages) will get "stuck" and causing unwanted simptom. FYI, certain MIDI messages / command need to be set with it's specific pair, to complete it's task (eg. note on~note off, Pedal open~Pedal closed, etc...). For example, when you are in specific track and pressing note on your keyboard controller, it actually send the Note On message to the track selected. If you move to another track while it's still be pressed, the previous track selected will "wait" for Note Off message of the note, thus the note sounded being sustained for uncertain duration. You can stop it by either go back to the previous selected track and release the key, or by pressing Panic Button in SONAR.

2. If you record using keyboard controller with sustain pedal, try to release the pedal before you stop recording. By doing so, it will send "sustain pedal release message" (CC 64 value 0) to the track, thus any "sustain pedal open message" (CC64 value 127) will be closed, and notes being recorded durring pedal pressing no longer being sustained. In so many case, forgeting to release the pedal will causing the notes being sounded for unlimited duration.

3. Viceversa, do not start recording while the notes / sustain pedal being pressed.

4. If you transfer MIDI sequenced file from any external sequencer via Floppy disk (eg. from Triton's internal sequencer to SONAR), the first time you open it, select all MIDI tracks and open Event List View to ensure no fancy "un-necessary" controller being listed. Some particular sequencer devices tend to write bank select number, patch, volume, pan, etc. in Control Change Message form when you save it to disk. In SONAR, you can adjust track's initial volume in Track View's volume slider (Track property) instead of sending CC 07 for certain value in the track's first measure. Goes the same for any parameter which can be adjusted within Track's property.

5. I think there's many more I can explain, but for now, lets make it easy step by step. I think those will keep you headache for a while :D Be back if you need more info...

6. And yes, moskus... you have something in addition to the FAQ... :D :D :D
