This is a trans-atlantic recording!! Paul881 and I recorded this tune 3,500 miles away! It is called "Drovers Hill, another view"'. it is the second one:
http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/10/1353/singles.shtml

It is live, there is some background noise that needs editing, but I think it works well overall. Paul wrote the tune.

I will be posting several more tunes that other HR. guys and I did. I have been really sick, hurt my arm, and am dealing with a few deaths in the family, but I thought I would get off my butt now and finish them all. Cheers

Hi david,
I like this a lot....Celtic/folk kinda feel...
Made me think of jolly olde England....and the days of Knights, and Dragons...ya know?
I like the mix...good job...
The only suggestion I would make would be to add a Mandolin to it...easier said than done I know but, that sure would round it out...It sort of sounds like the guitar is trying to get that sound now...
Good tune and good a performance from both of you
Good stuff....
Take it easy,
Joe

Dang, I was thinking that too!! I just got a Mandolin, and was having fun jamming with this tune!! I can play Mandolin well.

I am not the "Composer", he will chime in soon. The tune is simple, but cool. The arrangement is the hard part. I am a synthesizer geek, but I don't think that will work. We will keep trying... Thanks for listening!

When Paul sent me this, that is EXACTLY what I thought too. Great Minds think alike.

I love this song! And, being a bass player and lover(strictly platonic), I love it when the bass picls up the theme and still remains the bass...know what I mean? Two thumbs up, three if I had an extra...:D

NICE tune! Good performance.

Is it just me or is the bass panned to one side? That seems a little odd to me. It works to pull the song out a little, but I think I would move it back towards center a little more.

I love the way the violin and the guitar sound together.

Good work!
Chris

I think colaborations like this are as cool as snot!!! Way to go, is all I can say. I like the feeling of the song too. There are some recording issues, but I think at this point, they can take a back seat. and yeah...I'd take some mando too...seems to me, I've heard some of that 'round these parts too...:)

I did some colabs awhile back, before MP3's where really taking off, and swapped files via RealAudio (mainly just the vocals). I might get brave enough and post them...if this kind of stuff shows any interest around here. I heavily reverbed them up to cover up audio deficiancies...but anyway...didn't mean to get sidetracked.

Nice job...to both ....(now go clean up that hiss!!)

WOW

Nice stuff ! Man, I listened to some of Paul's stuff back in the fall and really liked it. I thought it would be cool to put some vocals on his tracks but then I found out he lives in Scotland. Looks like you guys have overcome the geographical barrier. Very nice and I too would like to hear a mandolin. Peace, Silver

DavidK,
YEAH, mando, mando man.
Great tune. And like I said before, doing it on the net is so cool.
Hurry up and put the mando to it, or I'll put it on myself. Give us a rundown on ya'lls recording process.

Very nice!!

David,

That's beautifull, nice playing, timing and all.

Sounds just slightly sparce, one more instrument should do it, even maybe a tamborine. Just like a single hit on the beat, just to make it more percusive. Know what I mean?

Great work!!

GT

This is severely cool! Definately some mandolin or bazuki. If you could squeeze in a cello, Oh, Baby! I love that "String Driven Thing/ Fairport Convention" sound.

man I love this piece.

I'm going to download it. It does not have the larger than life studio sound, but who cares, the melody is so beautiful.

funk on!

Hey, thanks everybody!! (from both sides of the pond).
Give us a rundown on ya'lls recording process.
1.Paul sent me an MP3, i opened it in Sonar

2. I pressed record and played Violin

Thats it, It was that simple. There is no editing or mixing whatsoever, I just made an mp3 and posted.

When we find the right version, we will clean it up and do the tricks.

Hi Guys,

Well what can I say, some beautiful feedback, I didn't know David had posted "Drovers Hill" on this forum till I got in from work tonight.

All those who suggested mandolin go to the top of the class, particularly joro who correctly spotted that I was trying to get a mando sound from my guitar (Capo on seventh fret). And top marks to Chris for noticing the bass is slightly off to one side.

Personally, I think either mandolin or cello - or maybe both, they operate at different ends of the sonic spectrum, it might not muddy it too much. I was thinking about adding an Irish drum sound to it too, just a simple beat, as GT suggests.

This was an interesting collaboration, Dave and I have never spoken and we don't even know what each other looks like either. The next step is for David to send his Cakewalk violin tracks over to England as project wav files so I can produce a better Master than MP3's allow.

Davids committment to this project has been superb, at a very difficult time for him personally and you have to say his playing is simply stunning, it makes the piece come alive. But he didn't tell me he could play mandolin, so how about it David?

I'm not really a folk person, Fairport Convention is the nearest I will admit to in that direction. But this one just popped out that way and if you guys "over there" think it invokes visions of Ye Olde Enland" then thats what I wanted it to impart, so in that respect, I have done my job.

Again, many thanks for all your positive comments, it means a lot to me and I'm sure to David too. I'll keep watching for new posts here.

Paul sent me his picture tonight. Yikes! I would have never done this if I knew he looked liked that. Holy Moly!

( He is actually very handsome, but I am commited to my Ladyfriend, and Paul is Married. Drats!)
We will add a Cello next, the Cellist in my group is great. I think Cello and maybe some percussion will round it out well.

The problem with this song is the arrangement. I sent Paul a few, but I didnt like my part. It is a simple song, but it could be arranged a million ways. Hopefully we will come up with the proper instrumentation. Paul's stuff (guitar and bass) is great, so I am thinking violin, Cello, and a few Percussion things, even if they are from Ye Olde Synthesizer.

Thanks for checking it out, Dave

Wow...I finally got something right...
Cool :)
You guys did an excellent job with this piece...
Cello will work wonderfully as well David,
Very cool indeed...
I am lookling forward to hearing it when you add to it..
Take it easy guys,
Joe

"Ye Olde Synthesizer..." :D :D :D

Beautiful! It brings to mind a sea shanty - I hear a ship's bell and some seagulls in the background, making sail for the Hebrides! Definitely Scottish - remember what William Wallace said -
"You can take our lives, but you can never take our.....fiddles!"
I agree about the mandolin, too.

Bob

Very tasty............

A great effort. Congratulations to you both. What do you think about adding an occasional pipe/flute interspersed with the violin?

regards,

rpe

I was feeling that violin solo..

I say again, I was feelin' that solo...

rediculously cool....
