Track seperation/clarity?

yup...use your ears grasshoppa...

Sometimes what I'll do is BOOST a fairly high Q (a high Q being a sharp dip or peak VS a low Q being a wider dip or peak) and sweep that boosted EQ across what I'm thinkin is the problem area.
When it starts to get really nasty, that's the point where I'll CUT the EQ and set more of a low Q. Widen the Q til it sounds right for that track.

More often than not, I'll cut before I boost EQ.
:drunk:

I can't believe nobody jumped on the "newbie using Waves plugins" attack bandwagon.

Waow! What is wrong with Waves plugs? Nothing, they are great. Ok a lot of people have used them in the past and most likely a lot still do. I know I do and with great results.
Nothing noob or even semi-pro about Waves. They are totally pro.

I'm already there. I have learned to just keep it to myself. Unless they say how they can/don't afford them. Then, I employ the ban hammer!!

Nothing at all. They are friggen awesome and usually purchased by people who know what they are buying, how to use them, and most importantly, have the money to purchase them.

Drbabbers ! yea miroslav is totally right..

first set the volume of each track how you like it , and pan some things.. and all that stufff... then the EQ is used to make some things more clear on the mix, Most of the time after EQing a track you have to adjust the volume again to your taste. But remember ! it's your taste, your ears! don't guide yourself on the graphics as they said before , train your ears and trust them.

i like snare drums with a little boost on the lows and the high-mids.. i use reaEQ also , its a really good tool ... just f*ck around with it until you start to understand its nature

While EQ has its uses...IMO it's best to first focus on panning and individual track levels...then once you have that sorted out as best as you can in the mix, only then use EQ to further define various elements.

IOW...if you have many of your tracks stacked "on top of each other" in the same pan position and with relatively the same levels....it's going to be hard even with EQ to separate things out.

Mix EQ is always the last thing I reach for when setting up a mix.

Excellent - this is sort of what I was asking in the cubase forum.

God I love this site.
