Total Newbie question about VST Instrument.

I can make music fine. I have a decent home studio (computer, synth, soundcard, software, cables) but I've heard the following from a lot of people. Get a vst synthethyser so my question is:

WHAT IS A VST SYNTHETHYSER???????????????????

I know vst stands for virtual instrument, but is it a synth? can I download it from somewhere and will it play just like a real synth in my computer? do I need cubase to use one?

VST Instruments are just software synth's there are alot of VST Instruments

Drum Machines
Analog Synths
Samplers
The List Goes On an On....

For Example Inside Of Cubsae You Can Activate/Load A VST Instrument (synth, drum machine, sample ,etc) And Use That Instrument Inside Cubase
EX:
VST Instrument#1-Drum Machine- Kick/Snare
VST Instrument#2-Sampler - Dance Loop
VST Instrument#3- Analog Synth-Basslines

Just software that acts like the real thing (hardware)

You Have To Buy The Good VST's But All Cubase's Come With 3 or 4 VST Instruments Free
