My eclectic list in no order:

Trey Anastasio- Trey Anastasio
The Slip- Angels Come on Time
Medeski, Martin, and Wood- Uninvisible
Paul McCartney- Back in the U.S.
Flogging Molly- Drunken Lullabies

Piebald - We are the only friends that we have.
Latterman - turn up the punk
Bright eyes - lifted.

I think everyone should check out latterman (www.mp3.com/latterman). They are an independent long island band, theyre whole cd was made on long island. Recorded in their singers basement (on a tascam 788!!), mastered and pressed on LI. My band has since recorded in his studio and he upgraded to pro tools and it sounds great.

Hey RJandthefull, you're a Bright Eyes fan, eh? Have you heard the split EP that Conor and Britt Daniel from Spoon did? They only made 2000 of them...I missed out on the initial sale (they were $8 each) but was able to pick an unopened copy off ebay for $36!

Yes,I have a burned copy of the split and it is great. I also saw him back in september with the 15 piece band and it was one of the best live experiences ever.

Awesome. I've never seen Bright Eyes but I saw Spoon twice and got to party with them. It was amazing. It was all thanks for John Vanderslice, however. He's the man. Buy his music! :)

Reel Big Fish - Cheer up
Foo fighters still sounds good so leave them alone!! its a "different" sound yes, but so was their last albums.
grinspoon - new detention
Unwritten law - Elva <-AWESOME (or was that 2001?)

thats close enough to 5

peace

Reel Big Fish - Cheer up

I'd second that - that album was so well done.
As for Foo Fighters, they've never bettered The Colour and the Shape if you ask me.
Top 5 Albums:
1) Hundred Reasons - ideas above our station
2) Reel Big Fish - Cheer up
3) Hell is for Heroes - Hell is for heroes
4) Rx Bandits - Progress (although I think it was 2001....)
5) The Get up kids - Something to write home about (1998, but hey, I only just discovered them and it is an amazingly well produced album)

Very first post :D

Disturbed: Believe (guitars are very tight)
Trapt: self-titled (Killer sound!)
Chevelle: Wonder What's Next
30 Seconds To Mars: self titled (This one grew on me.)
12 Stones: self titled

The Rx Bandits album did come out in 2001, but it is an incredible album.

1.. QOTSA - songs for the deaf
2.. Audioslave - Audioslave
3.. System of a Down - Steal this Album
4.. QOTSA - songs for the deaf
5.. Machine Gun Fellatio - Paging Mr. Strike (aussie, kinda like early bungle but electronic)

what gets me is I haven't heard MOST of this stuff mentioned.

when Wishbone Ash came out with a new album, or Robin Trower... I knew it that day... times seem to have changed in a big way for me buying commercial stuff...

I appreciate guitar player's players.... like Metheny and such nowadays... and bluegrass that makes you drop your jaw...from groups you've never heard of. NPR radio...just great.

1. wilco - yankee hotel foxtrot
2. coldplay - a rush of blood to the head
3. interpol - turn on the bright lights
4. the electric soft parade - holes in the wall
5. doves - the last broadcast

Anyone gonna mention anything about Kelly Osborne's new record, its a masterpiece. :D

I haven't heard anything good this year. SOD was ok but not great. The Foo Fighters have to go back to square one because now they're just ripping themselves off. 2001 was a much better year.

Although I will definately check out the new Frank Black and Flaming Lips albums! I think there was a new portishead as well that I haven't heard yet. Oh and the breeders have a new one. Maybe I'm just getting behind!

Oh yeah, and Big Selling Rock Band You Wouldn't Have Liked if You Weren't a Slave to Pop Radio and MTV put out a bunch of new albums this year. They're great. I think they were produced by Bob Rock.

Slackmaster 2000

Here are the best I bought this year that were released this year (not necessarily the best I bought though).

1. Yanqui U.X.O - Godspeed, You Black Emperor
If you've heard any of their albums, then you have an idea what this sounds like. The thing is, I always know what happens, but I keep putting it on anyway.

2. TA - Trans Am
The last 80's album I bought that was this good was in 1987. Also some gorgeous instrumentals, like "Afterlight."

3. Source Tags & Codes - ... And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead
This just rocks, and it's got some lovely songs too. Sort of emo, sort of not, sort of singers who are screaming from their socks and a wicked drum sound.

4. Tusk - Camper Van Beethoven
A cover of the "failure" double album (orig. by Fleetwood Mac) from the reunited brilliance of CVB. CVB has done really interesting things with the songs, production, arrangements... enough to make an engaging semi-masterpiece from something I never liked.

5. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot - Wilco
It's interesting when everyone seems to like an album, even though all their tastes are so different. But this is that kind of album.

I agree with Tukkis on the Silverchair album, it was my favorite of the year. Other than that... didn't really check out to many releases from 2002.

1. Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head
2. Counting Crows - Can't remember the name
3. RHCP - By the Way; If they hadn't used alsihad
4. Creed - Weathered
5. No Doubt - Rock Steady

That last one's kinda ify, but yeah.
