Hello Everybody. . I am new to the forum but have been reading here (I hate saying lurking) with interest as of late. Lots of good information. Thanks to some of the pros who reply here. Experience just can't be bought. I am a musician who has reached the age of not playing out much anymore. I have dabbled in recording for 20 years but always in a very come and go fashion. With the extra time I have been doing alot of recording and am getting into it. It's time to upgrade. I want to be as cheap as possible keeping in mind that I am looking for a quality setup.. I have a protools Le 8.00 system running into a dual core processor by way of the usb port. What i have been doing for the last while is bypassing the preamps and converters through the spdif to a tube preamp /converter (Aphex 207d). I don't record more than two channels at a time and I'm alright with that for what i do. It got me thinking though if maybe there was a preamp/converter of a vastly superior nature to the Aphex, that I could get with a spdif connection. I couldn't find one. What i did find is this combination Great River mp - 2nv mic preamp and a Black Lion Audio sparrow ad/da converter with spdif connections. Could I hook these together without any forseeable problems and use the mbox as a "dongle" ( I don't know I read it here). Also is my signal path being choked by the usb connection ( or anything else I'm missing) . To me it seems like a relatively cheap way to have a near studio quality signal path. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
