The guy is an amazing drummer.......if you haven't heard Meshuggah's music before and you like heavy thrash metal with odd time signatures, then I highly suggest checking out their cds:

Destroy Erase Improve
Chaosphere
Nothing

I swear Haake is a cyborg from another planet......he's so solid.....no drummer touches him right now in my opinion>>>

Is'nt he also the one that does the samples on drumkit from hell

Yep. THose samples are working great for me, by the way. I love em.

he is a great drummer that is highly influnced by fusion/jazz drum god dave weckl.

Anyone seen

the video of him and meshugga's guitarist thats floating around on the net. Im not totally sure where its from but its just those 2 doing an improv type live set. Its a really closeup video and you can really see whats going on drum wise.
Im not sure how old it is, i noticed that the guitarist is still on a 7 string so im guessing that its pre NOthing.

I think what you're talking about is a side project that Fredrick did with another Swedish drummer for that Sol Niger "Special Defects" cd he did back in like 1995........they played one song live for some Swedish TV show.........it's not Tomas Haake, I'm 99.9% sure.........I'm so pissed off that the US Meshuggah headlinning tour isn't playing 1 southeastern show!!! Im gunna miss them this tour, but I hope it's not their last........they are getting old though.......mid 30s

I heard they used custom made 8 stringed guitars on the last album.

If you listen to the latest meshugga cd you will know that you "heard" right. Its almost impossible to tell whats bass and whats guitar. I would've hated to be the guy mixing that wall of bass in the studio, or ever worse, the guy doing their live sound.
Meshugga1234, now that I think about it, it didnt look like meshuggas drummer at all. A buddy of mine showed me the video one day when i was at his house, assuming that were talking about the same vid. The only thing i really remember was that Fredrick had a piece of duct tape on his bottom 3 strings to mute them i suppose. Same vid?

I`ve heard them three times live and the bass player has such an agressive sound, he easy to hear throught the wall of guitars....
What an amazing band!

Yeah, Fredrick had tape covering the bottom strings on his guitar........that's not Tomas Haake for sure.........it's a guy named Morgan from Sweden......don't know his last name.........Meshuggah is killer live>>>

yes i totally agree

about meshugga being incredible live. I was just saying that i wouldn't want to be the guy who was in charge of keeping that mix from being one big mush of Bass.

this is kinda funny, 'coz I do live mixing on regular basis for a band called ROOM-13 who play with 7 string tuned down guitars and 5 string tuned down (1.5 notes) and it is not that hard to mix at all. (to my surprise too!)

The funny thing is, the guitars are waaaay low but the bass has a lot of 'attak' in the mid-high frq range which can be picked up and ampt to get aggressive sound.

2 weeks ago I mixed this band called Grinter, who were tuned in A... the bass player had a hard time keeping his string on the neck (yep, the flubbered waay to much...)

I've never seen meshuggah live (bummer) but I love this band.
