To those who rock at recording stuff...

I've got 2 sm 57's, 1 sm 58, and a Maxel v67 condenser mic. What would be the best way of recording a 4-peice set?

do you mean Marshall?....id go with a sm57 on the kick and snare and the v67 as an overhead.....maybe use the sm58 with the ball off to mic the outside of the kick or somewhere in the room to capture a little room sound.....

or maybe even the 58 on the toms...but id stay with the 57 on kick and snare with the v67 overhead and use the 58 wherever it serves you best....

I agree with Gidge, 57's on the kick and snare the V67 as an overhead- and the 58?????

Some possible options with the 58:

1. Bottom of the snare (for more snare sound)
2. Batter head on the kick (for more attack)
3. Additional close mic (maybe between the two toms)
4. Hi-hat (if the V67 isn't giving the definition you need)
5. Maybe - just don't use it

Have to go with Warlock on this one. This way you've basicly tight mic'ed the whole kit (except the floor tom). It'll give you a lot more flexability on balancing the kit.

get a pair of Pacificas...

I mean MXL 603s to use as overheads/cymbals. These are still pretty cheap at $70ea. You might even consider the Behringer ECM8000s at $35ea.

that would be great also grip...with the ECM8000's on overheads, the v67 could be used more as a room mic....

and the Pacificas make great gifts....Id like one in Transparent Green......maple neck......
