To the Computer?

I use a Yamaha MD4 minidisc recorder for recording, but have no sound method of transferring my music to a cd.

All I've managed to do is run a mono output to the mic/line input of my computer and record the crap in Cool Pro Edit. This, of course, adds considerable noise to the tracks, and I'm getting tired of it.

Does anyone know of sound cards that accept stereo inputs, maybe even with RCA cable? Or should I seek out an actual cd recorder unit?

Thanks,
GuitarSam

There's loads and loads of soundcards that allow that. Which type of soundcard do you have now? Are you sure that the line in isn't stereo?

How much are you willing to spend on that soundcard? Wouldn't it be better to invest some more (maybe sell the md recorder) and go completely to your pc? There's some nice 4 channel audio cards available too...

I have worked with some old md 4 track, and it was hell. The eq was about the worst I have ever worked with, not parametric, oh my god  (I'm spoiled :D ), the mixer itself was bad too. And I didn't record the tracks, they was bad too!! It was horrible... :( I need a hug now...

If your current soundcard has a Line-In input you might be alright using that. You just need the right cable and connectors - typically RCAs at the MD4 end and a 1/8th" stereo jack at the soundcard end. This is a combination lots of people use. The sound quality should be okay. What's generally not recommended is using the Mic input of your soundcard. This is usually designed for use with low quality microphones.

Quite a few good quality audio soundcards are available at around the $200 mark. Some use RCA connectors, others use 1/4" jacks. M-Audio Delta 44 is a popular one.
