This is what I plan on doing Friday night, but I have very little experience miking drums (among other things), and would like some input...

AT4033
C1000S
SM57 (2)

I plan on using the AT and C1000 as overheads per The Sayers Recording Manual (one over toms, one over drummers head). I'm thinking of having the C1000S over drummers head.

57 on snare
57 in kick

comments/suggestions please --

thanks

sounds good, I like stereo, so I would use the condensors as a stereo pair. Which ever has the best low end response put over the ride cymbal/floor tom side and the other over the hats/1st tom side. Check for phase problems and compress to taste.

Just my opinion

Excellent- that's the stuff I'm looking for. Brenton, you prefer the overheads as you described rather than over the toms and drummers head? I have no referecne, so am curious as to why?

thanks,

Adam

I like the stereo image...........if you put one above the toms and one above the drummers head they will both be roughly in the centre. Unless I'm missing something.

I'm not saying anything is right or wrong, just telling you how I prefer to do it.

Brenton Trott, how would you pan the over heads to make them stereo? Wouldn't you need 2 mics over the same spot?

And plus what else would you pan; the kick, snare or what?

Well the overheads were panned L and R for stereo and I placed the bass and snare in the center of the mix. Sounds great, Brenton - thanks.
