A buddy of mine swears by this program. I was just wondering what all of you think. I would like to try my hands at mastering... Would this be good for starters or should I tell my friend to shove it?

Haven't heard 2.0 yet, but version 1 was OK. But just OK nothing spectacular. I used it a couple of times to master up some old analog multitrack tape stuff (after being transfered into Wavelab, with RayGun doing Noise Reduction duties). I could have done better, but at the time it worked good for me.

If you are looking for a an all-in-one package, I'd say check out Izotope's Ozone plugin too. I like the Ozone multiband compressor better, and it is even more Swiss Army Knife like, with all it's extra goodies (i.e. Exciter, Reverb, etc.). Also worthy of note is the PSP Vintage Warmer, which has it's own sort of dirty flavor (and is quite affective as a track plugin, for say, adding some really warm growl to a bass track). However, none of these will replace a good plugin bundle (i.e. Waves, UAD-1, etc.)

I like T-RackS for some things. There are better digital matering tools, but they are also much more expensive.

Make sure you're getting the plug in version of it instead of the standalone version, though. Same effects, WAY more flexibility.

Take care,
Chris

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll keep an eye out for those programs/plugins. Maybe I can borrow T-RackS from my friend as a trial or something. I don't want to pay $300 for a program I won't like.

If you master anything through T-Racks it'll SOUND like it's been through T-Racks. Bit of a one trick pony IMO. Never did like it's flavour

i like t-racks. the tubes really warm up my sterile digital tracks..... (insert sarcasm here)

/\ yeah all you got to do is get on the internet, copy a picture of a tube and insert it as a plugin :p :D
